I see the idea but I cannot imagine Minnesota pays up that much. They can find other ways to minimize the damage. One would be to ask Koivu to waive his NMC. He is in the final year of his contract, is expected to make $3.78M in a signing bonus and $9.18M total salary this year. No chance Vegas takes this on.
It doesn't solve all their problems but moving Pominville doesn't either, and unless they can find a way to not lose a Dumba / Brodin or a Coyle / Zucker for nothing then they won't make any deals. The easiest way is to either trade TWO defence for picks / prospects then protect 7/3 or make a deal with Vegas to have them select someone specific to keep all the key players they want to keep. |

no they flipped draft positions did they not? wings still got a 1st and 53rd overall no?
so that isn't ad lopsided as you think. in fact by your logic the coyotes GM should have got a lot more. - rinaldo
But it's comparable, considering I even said in my proposal that we're arguing about that the Coyotes could send them a first. |

pomminville is still a productive player though; 2 years of him isn't the end of the world by any means. I get the logic just a bad example imo. |

Hey Tanner - I've been going back and forth with a few of the beat writers on Twitter about this very topic. I brought up flipping the pick back to MN for Nino N, and sending the 7, a 3rd rounder and prospect to Colorado for Duchenne. Apparently according to the beat writers the Coyotes have no interest in Duchenne. Not sure why, but whatever. Here is what I would do:
Pick 7, 3rd or 4th rounder and b level prospect to NYR for Stepan - This lets the Rangers get salary cap relief (for Shattenkirk) and gives us a 1ishC finally.
Pick 23 to MN for either Dumba or Nino - I'd take either
Expansion - Somehow convince LVG to take either Murphy or Richardson.
Go to Anaheim and get either Vatanen or Fowler.
Roll out this lineup:
Domi-Dvorak-Duke
Keller-Stepan-Nino/Perlini
Reider-Strome-Martinook/Perlini
Crouse-Martinook-Vrbata
OEL- Vatanen/Fowler
Gologoski-Chychrun
DeAngelo-Schenn
I'd even take Hanzal back at 3 yr x 4 per as a 3C but I am sure he wants a huge deal. This is a line up that would bring more fans to the barn and more importantly, bring a winning team back. Even if we can only do a few of those, most important to me is the 1C and RHD partner for OEL, then I think we'll see a significant improvement. I agree though, it's going to be an exciting next month or so for us few Coyotes fans and season ticket holders.... |

Pomminville isn't worth protecting, and certainly he isn't worth $6 million cap hit. What he can still bring to the table is irrelevant because for that money he better score 30 goals. |

I like what you're thinking but Matt Duchene was terrible last year and I wouldn't want him unless he was way cheaper. I don't think Colorado is going to be selling him off at a discount and he's not worth paying full price for.
I don't like the idea of getting Stepan or Fowler, both are players I think are extremely overrated.
But sure, make some trades with those draft picks and get some vets in here to surround the kids with - but not token old guys, players in or entering their primes now. |

That Pekka Rinne really sucks huh? Must have been Carlyle's fault. |

Well Pikke Rinne had the stats of the 16th best goalie this year and his team was 16th....and would have finished higher with a better goalie. Glad he's doing well, but no one could have predicted he'd go on the best run of his career when he hasn't been an elite goalie since 2011. |
