I did say that sheltered minutes would have been better. If you go back a little further, unforeseen circumstances with Souray, Whitney and even Visnovsky to a certain extent kind of pooched their blueline depth and then they couldn't entice any decent FA dmen to come here. Pretty sad when signing Mark Fayne and Andrew Ferrence are considered a big win on July 1.
- TheTaoOfSemenko

I also said Ference and Fayne were awful signings at the time....and got torched by most on here saying they were legit top 4 dmen on playoff teams that would be a great role model for our young guys...
But I was also labelled a Mact apologist...even though I was the one that torched many of his moves when they happened. Weird.

Considering how you and the "Warriors" would ostracize any dissenting opinion, there's a lot of irony in you saying that. Sure, it started out as fighting trolls but it got to the point where you guys would drive out those who just misunderstood and were just looking to discuss.

Let's not get into this again.

You are
Confusing my brand of comedy with witch hunting.

And I only really singled Hall Fan and JB consistently. Others were occasionally called morons for saying moronic things but that's different from what your talking about, Jabroni.

Looks like you were right. What of it? No one better was willing to come to the Oilers at the time, and they knew quite well that they needed some veteran presence to help insulate young blueliners that they had at the time like Jultz, Marincin and Gernat. Problem was, they were trying to insulate them with 4-6 guys. They knew it too, but if you can't entice better talent as FAs, what do you do? Trade recent and high draft picks for less than they're worth because other GMs are all lowballing your perrenial lotto team? I don't know who said they were top 4 guys, but at the time calling them 4-6 wasn't unreasonable.

Umm....isn't that exactly what they ended up doing? of course they were in a position to do it last summer than in years previous but whatever.

For sake of exploring this, I went back and the most incendiary thing I said regarding Schultz was the following after he had been scratched for horrid play and the D looked much better:
Finally. Praise the gods he's gone! I'm curious to see how the rest of the D handles "void" (if you can call it that). They've looked as good these past 2 games as they have since Klefbom got injured.

Hopefully they can make that 3rd count, too.

- MaximumBone

That was the day of the trade and emotions were high as I had gotten sick of his brand of non-existent board play.

In that same thread you say this:
Good asset management. Yes. Steals? Genius moves? No.

After some twat had said that the trades were heists. So you agreed that it was the correct move at the time to at least retain some manner of value from the trading of those players (Schultz, Purcell and Nilsson).

EDIT: I've now also confirmed that RatedR and Iloveeveryone (IHBB alt?) were also in the same camp of thought as HB, Schwein and myself on the subject. Your culprits who ran counter to your ideals were, as you'd expect, JLO, AlexOil, and OilFan to name a few.

Only unrealistic people thought they were homerun signings, but at the time there wasn't much better available and they desperately needed some sort of veteran presence. The signings were bad in retrospect obviously. I'm just trying to put them into context.

You already addressed the key part of it. He said minimum two way deal. No way anyone goes for that.
He signed a one way 750k deal and is now guaranteed to get it all next season no matter where.

- Iggysbff

Don't recall him saying that. My bad

Pak certainly held a few cards and was able to use it, so yeah, a two way deal wasn't gonna happen

Either way, totally worth it.

I recall you and I being the only ones saying we basically gave him away for nothing and that he would thrive simewhere else. Todd should take a lot of flack for not using him well. But that won't happen. I also pooped on Chia for getting nothing for him when Russell got a haul for Calgary. And Shultz has proven he is far far better than Russell.
- Iggysbff

I certainly wasn't on the hate Schultz train.

But at the end of the day, I wasn't super pissed about the return. He was next to worthless by the time we were done with him.
Not his fault, but nonetheless, it was what it was

The think that pissed me off about the whole Schultz thing was the fans on this site that hammered on him, without looking at the why.

Of course, no one looked at PC and why he didnt do better than just Sekeras because he was new, not Mac T, and could do no wrong.

Par for the course round these parts.

I'll still defend mact and won't buy into the hate.
But I also believe pc is a quality gm and has done a solid job. He might be abit overzealous when he wants a player(or wants to get rid of one) and will pay whatever it takes. But he knows what kind of team can win in this league imo. of course having Connor gives him a ton of freedom to do things that mact just couldnt

Worked out in the end I think

This is traditional iggy.

He makes a claim he said something, or took a stance...a long time ago, knowing full well that no one is going to go back to corroborate his story.

Well done Max.

What's your obsession with Iggy anyway? You post 5 or 6 about Iggy not liking PC for every one of his anti-PC posts?

It's starting to get weird and this endless campaign to recruit fellow posters to your cause feels like a desperate attempt to be on the 'cool kids' side of the playground.

Maybe I'm wrong, just sorta seems that way.
