If he scores at a 30 goal pace again, and continues to be the player he was this year on an off the ice you pay the man...if I was GM thats what I would do.

I certainly would not trade him, to trade him. What I still can't get from you guys that want to trade him is what is his value in your eyes. what should our return be?

- sabreswarpath

This is the catch 22. If he scores a ton, he will price himself out of Buffalo.

If he doesn't score, you get limited value for him

They are in a good spot now to move him. He had a decent year

Your trading Kane to avoid him walking for free after a season in which we are not winning the cup, or paying him 6 million to put up 40 points

Not sure why people aren't 100% on board with ROR. He plays in all situations for Team Canada. He is one of the best at face-offs in the NHL. Anyone that coaches his loves him and raves about his all around game. A poor-man's version of Bergeron (not by much IMO). I'll take him at $7.5 million for another 5 years or whatever. But people on this forum don't think he's worth his contract. ROR for Sabres captain.

BTW - TSN has been raving about him all game long. They are saying he is their leader and best player.

He does seem driven, more than anyone else on the team save for Jack. He took responsibility for the season, although I think everyone knows he was overused by DD.
I like how incredibly tough he is with the puck, he drives the other teams crazy. And his backhand is absolutely deadly. Definitely a cornerstone for the team moving forward.

I'd rather have Kane at Okposo's contract for the next six years than Okposo.

The problem is that with Kane, you have a large sample size. And in that sample size, he has not played at a 30 goal pace far, far more often than he has.

If Botterill is able to move Okposo, I would be far less opposed to extending Kane.

KO has never scored 30, and he's raking in 6per for the next 6 years. And he's coming off a season that he ended from the ICU.

Why lol ... This could of been a fluke year for Kane and he's back to his inconsistent ways

Keeping both does seem like too much of an extravagance. I just see Kane as better and younger.

Could be, sure. I just like him better than KO. How would you rate Kyle's season last year?

Okposo has had 69,51,64 point years before this past year.

He has the track record of a legit top line guy

William Nylander wins the MVP of the World Championships. 2016-2017 just needs to be over.

I was never too keen on the Okposo deal from day 1, although I didn't hate it completely. I don't think you can keep both him and Kane long term and be a legitimate championship contender.

Even though most seem to be way higher on Kyle than I am, I'm strangely pleased that fans have a guy that they go light on. Normally, we as a fanbase, crap all over everybody, no matter what.

The Kane hate again, wouldn't be a Sabres blog without it.

Kane got 25 goals even strength last year playing 70 games

when was the last time a sabre did that?

vanek in 06-07 with 28?

if this was easy to find, we wouldn't have gone 10 seasons w/o it happening

Maybe even strength goals don't matter in his case, it's all about lack of PP goals?

on what we hope to be a good 5v5 team someday, okposo brings far more to the table.

Kane is all about volume. once this team has the depth and a functioning blueline that can generate chances too his volume play will hurt us more than help us.
