I am pretty much in agreement.
I think Kempny gets more than $1mil.
Who do you send to Vegas? - -Doh-
Probably TvR, but I left him in there as his replacement would likely need to cost the same.
I left about $900,000 in cap space to compensation for some of the contracts should some guys (like Kempny) get more that I budgeted for.

Stan should approach COL, who is in control, about Panarin for Duchene swap and see if you can make it work from there.
Maybe something like Panarin + Anisimov + Forsling
FOR
Matt Duchene + JT Compher + Chris Bigras
Hawks get around 5 million in cap space and a 2C in Duchene. JT Compher would be great as a 3C and Chris Bigras replaces Forsling, with a little more upside. COL gets an elite scoring winger, center depth to replace Duchene and puck mover to replace Bigras.
Thoughts? |

I'm sure Schmaltz would love playing with him.
I'm not sold on Landeskog, his point totals have been declining the past few seasons and his NTC kicks in for the 18/19 season (for the last 3 years of the deal). |

a change of scenery could benefit him. playing alongside toews could also help a bit. maybe even dropping the C would be helpful for him. at 5.5M cap, and locked up for a while, wouldn't be the worst option if available or had for the right price. |

I agree with what you posted and think that's more of what the "real world" will consist of this summer.
I just dont' see a GM who has given his core the benefit of the doubt time and time again, rattle that cage and sell off a larger piece.
I truly don't understand the Panarin backlash. he played like hell....I get that, but again somebody please logically explain to me where that production is coming from next year..........
Thanks Darth |

Not really in today's NHL. Keith is listed at 6'1" 192. No one would confuse him with a big body. |

How does Stan create the cap space to take on that contract? |

The Blackhawks translation for 6'1" in real life is 5'10". Debrincat isn't really 5'7", he's actually 5.2".

I saw a post somewhere...maybe it was NBCPHT about the preds captivating the nation. Ah sure...riiiighhht.
I have talked hockey with the very casual sports fans and yes a few asked (seriously): nashville has a hockey team???
listen they have played great and owned 3rd periods...rinne is on his way to meet Mr. Con Smythe...
but the preds have not captivated a nation: LA, NY, Boston, Chicago, Detroit could give a rip...and i don't think the likes of sisson, arvedson, and watson or even subban or neal or forsberg are going to pull the crowds in
the only way NBC gets even decent rating is if pens are in it and the story will be about the repeat...not about the "who are those guys in those ugly jerseys"
to the pens and the repeat... |

Right now the Preds are the flavor of the month, just like the Sharks were last season. I'm not trying to take away anything from the Preds, they've been fantastic and should be enjoying every minute of this well deserved run. But time will tell if this franchise has the staying power of the Hawks and Pens.
It's easy to point out guys like Watson and/or Sissons and say "why can't Stan get depth like that". But in early April nobody was talking about those guys, but give them credit for getting hot at the right time. Can the Watsons and Sissons continue to play well next season and beyond? Possibly, but their track records over the past couple of seasons don't support it.

I don't think the Hawks draft any better or worse than most teams in the NHL.
I do think that Q doesn't always do a great job putting his players in a position to have success but rather jams them into a hole and its his way or the highway.
For example, guys that can move the puck with their feet, Campbell, Forsling, Kempny, Leddy when he was here, Daley, Keith when he's on. They usually force a long pass before skating the puck out.
Some of those players, probably do better with the puck on their blade moving forward instead of making a 100ft pass.
There is something to be said for system and something to be said for letting players be who they are. Tough to argue with 2nd most wins in history and 3 Cups and a bunch of conference finals. Also difficult to watch the last two years. Potato potato |

look at what happened to the career of one Richard Panik when he joined the Blackhawks...
bad seasons happen. players of their caliber have the capabilities to rebound. Richard Panik broke out playing with a better group of players.
maybe duchene or landeskog would benefit from playing with a better core of players.
as far as who the hawks would give up, that's the million dollar question. any player named you can make an argument against why they shouldn't trade that player. i'd imagine panarin, hjalmarsson, or anisimov would have to be the beginning of any conversations for duchene or landeskog.
i love hjalmarsson, but if they feel his next contract is gonna go up, they should consider moving him now and getting value back for him. keith and seabrook probably won't be going anywhere it seems. people will probably laugh at this comment, but it's a business. everybody's time expires. i read on this board constantly how bowman gets fleeced on all of his moves. he has a chance this summer to make unpopular decisions that could get the hawks value back finally. |

Panik also was making $975,000 when acquired and re-signed for $875,000. That's a far cry from $5.5 million when you're talking about a reclamation project.

Products of the Nashville farm system who have played very well in the playoffs and are versatile. Yes, easy to point them out when a team is going like Nashville.
But why not point them out - does the Hawks farm system have anybody ready to graduate and play as well as either of them soon? I think I know the answer. |

The Ducks have 5 more years of Kesler and another year of Bieksa at $4 million.
Looking at the Ducks cap situation at Cap Friendly, I was drawn to Rakell's contract which seems very reasonable. He signed his ~ $3.8 deal after 43 and 31 point seasons, then went on to score 33 goals last year. I think it puts Panik's contract into perspective. Panik's two previous years were 22 points (pro-rated) and 44 points. So Panik's $2.8 million cap hip seems like a good deal. |
