Toews and Seabrook are huge issues with the contracts they have.
Seabrook didn't fall off a cliff, he's just continued his steady decline into "worst contract in the NHL" territory.
Toews is still solid for at least the next 2-3 years, but he was never worth his price tag, and he's never been elite. He actually has exactly 1 more goal in the playoffs than I do over the last 2 seasons.

Stan Bowman, is that you?

EDIT:

This is LITERALLY exactly what I'm expecting Bowman to say after he makes virtually no major moves this summer. Do you write Bowman's press releases?

- EnzoD

We all know there has to be at least one major move. I would expect maybe 2 lesser moves too. But the poster was saying the Hawks could not get better with the younger players having another year of experience. So he is saying the younger players have already reached their full potential. I am not writing the younger players off. Look around the league and see all the younger players start contributing in their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th years. Look at Pittsburgh last year and Ottawa this year.

Kane has both his places up for sale - in Trump 😤Tower here and his house in Buffalo.

Never been Elite? His individual AND team awards trophy case begs to differ. He was the 1C on three Stanley Cup championship Teams, the Alt Captain on Team Canada for 2 Gold Medals and the list goes on and on because he's just another average center. You also have exactly as many playoff goals as the entire Jets Roster over the last 2 seasons!

I like Schmaltz and Hartman but they can't even stay Cap compliant without moving a large salary. As recent history has shown, that's likely gunna cost Stan a good young player...further depleting the talent on the roster that wasn't nearly good enough to win a Cup.

You're a smart guy, Enzo. Why do you even acknowledge the troll? Ignore.
- BMWChiFan

He needs to be banned. You comment anything even slightly resembling condescension on the Leafs or Oilers blog and you get banned immediately. I know from experience. This troll comes here daily to spew nothing but poop talk about the Hawks. It needs to be addressed as it is explicitly prohibited on the HB Code of Conduct and it's presence ruins the blog.

I for one am looking forward to going over to their forum once they get bounced by the Ducks or whoever comes out of the East. God I hope they don't win.

Then why do you want him?

You keep Little. Toews has probably been injured the last 2 years. If anyone turns it around it will be him.

I don't know what side he plays, but he has a R stick. So guessing right side. Probably a "replacement/upgrade" for Rozy or TVR, realistically.

Yeah, Stan is going to have to give up one of the guys he signed to their latest contract, it's almost like him admitting he paid too much. That'll be hard for him to do.

The roster is definitely top heavy. Great that some young guys got experience last year but there needs to be more NHL level skill on this team.

The other thing needed from the bottom six is more grit. That's where the loss of Shaw really hurt the most. Hartman and Panik have a bit of snarl but there wasn't the will to win throughout the roster like there has been in years past. Need more personality in the locker room.

There were two or three weeks during the season when it seemed like the old Toews was back for a while. We need him and some versions of the old Keith and the old Seabrook new year no matter what.
