Larsson is a good #3 shutdown guy. Zero offense, poor skating, muffin wrister.bad stick mechanics.

Zero offense... He had better even strength production than Giordano, Yandle, Brodie, Ristolainen, Martinez, Lindholm, Stralman and Gostisbehere to name a few. I'm sick of this garbage narrative you spew that he doesn't have offensive capacity just because he isn't given PP time.

Poor skating by what margin? Compared to Klefbom? Yeah, sure but that's a damn high bar. He's at least above average when you consider his edgework, his path selection. But alas, neither of us can prove our point as skating isn't quantifiable.

I mean, except the entire D corps that carried them to a Cup. You can discount Chara all you want, but he acquired every one of Boychuk (for Matt Hendricks), Seidenberg (for Bitz and a pick), Ference (for Stuart) McQuaid (for the pick that remarkably turned into Jamie Benn) and Kaberle (for Colborne), as well. Add his acquisitions of vital pieces that made that team such a consistent threat in Horton, Recchi, Ryder, Peverley and Kelly and you should notice he did MUCH more than you seem to think.

THe season they won the presidents trophy they were without chara and seidenberg for a huge swath of the season too. A couple years after the cup.
Buddy built a quality team there.

And I think he's done a solid job of beginning to build another contender here .

I laughed at the Hall trade originally, but I'll admit that it turned out to be pretty decent. Still would love to be able to see how the team would have done with Hall + Demers instead of Lucic + Larsson, just out of curiosity.

Bob Nicholson hired Chirelli. Are you calling Nicholson a fool? The Hall trade was costly but it was the right move as seen in the results of the Oilers season. All good teams need solid defense and the Oilers didn't have one until they gave up Hall for Larsson. Guess what NJ needs now?! If Chirelli traded Draisaitl for Larsson I might agree with you but the Oilers survived the Hall trade and flourished. Get over it. It was a good trade for both teams, especially the Oilers.
