Would you rather

OJ Bo Glass Pettersson going forward or

OJ Heiskanen Bo Glass

I see next years draft having better D so I would load up on centers this year ?

There is no wrong answer.

- VANTEL

You're right, there is no wrong answer.

I think Heiskanen would work, he has been D partnered with OJ before. Either Liljegren or Makar could be good options as well.

I'm a fan of building from the net out, so I wouldn't mind 2 1st round D prospects between this year/next. That said, I hope we hit on the C we take this year.

I think Garth Snow made one of the most lopsided trades in recent memory.

He pawned off a BUST for Matthew Barzel.
Once Florida Dallas and Boston proceeded to screw the pooch with their picks everyone called edmonton and he thought their offer was the best

- classic321

he also traded Nino Neiderieter for cal clutterbuck so those 2 balance out I guess

While this team has holes to fill at every position, I feel that the need to replace the Sedins/ is more pressing than replacing Edler/Tanev (management seems content to go long term with these two)... even with the loss of Tryamkin, we found a little bit of young depth lately in Stecher/Hutton... IMO young Centers are needed way more right now and for the next couple of season

That's why I said I hope we hit with our pick this year. With #5 we unquestionably need to pick a C

Me too! Unfortunately I don't think any of the d warrant a top-5 pick

In my hypothetical we have the 5th(C) and a pick in the 8-12 range(D), and then take a D next year if and only if he is BPA

Nice. I agree a second pick in that range could be a nice d piece "real good"

The floors & ceilings of the forwards who'll be available at 8-12 are way higher than the D that'll be available @ that point IMO. If we reach for a dman for the sake of taking a dman, it'll be a costly mistake.

I also noted above that it only works if one of the top 3 D is still available

Even those guys though. Makar is exciting, but his floor makes him someone we can't afford to gamble on. Heiskanen has become very overrated all of a sudden... and Liljegren was always overrated.

I personally don't think any of those guys would be a reach at that draft position.

So who do you take in that scenario? A winger or another C?

Does "overrated" mean thought very highly of by professional scouts?

Not necessarily. In this case it means that a lack of quality defensive prospects in this draft has the few legit ones overrated relative to the "2nd tier" of forwards.

Well you're entitled to your opinion, but I will stick to central scouting and bobby mac who have at least 2 d going top 10 with one possible top5 (colorado reaching for need does make sense)

Looking forward to the Mem Cup can do some scouting on Vilardi Petit Raddysh and also see some draft picks Logan Brown and Matt Barzal

which is my point: I'll trust the scouts, although I don't mind hearing opinions I'll take a professional opinion 10/10 times.

There are a few guys here that get out to more than a fair share of games and do their own scouting. I like watching on TV when they are on. I do wish they would run alternately to the NHL season so we could watch them for 6 months

For sure. I've watched a number of the guys myself against the royals with cheese here in Victoria. Rasmussen is a no. I really liked yamamoto. Thought Foote was not visible, but he also didnt get scored on... so that's a plus, I saw the wheatkings but princess patrick was out , I liked popagaev that kid can really shoot if he drops to 33 I hope JB picks him (LW too). I watch a poop tonne of tape, read stats and go to games. I'm not trying to discredit anyone, but I rely on the pro-scouts personally.

Interesting fact: Central scouting has Klim Kostin as the #1 european skater. I wonder if JB takes a look as he is a center/LW.
