I'd bet more than 6 in the first round play 100+, let alone the whole draft

Yes, the draft is fine. Plenty of high end talent. Just no Mcjesus

I'm with you, what's hard to guess ahead of time is which are the busts. JB IMO seems to know his business, particularly if you believe the tale of JV getting picked even though he wasn't JB's first choice. It seems like a lot of the busts from the last 5-6 years have been guys that cant skate(Dal Colle, Rienhart, possibly the Strome kids). I wonder if skating is to crucial to overlook in the NHL at this point.

What do people think of Klim Kostin at 5?
I realize this is a reach on a lot of boards, but he has been #1 on the central scouting euro board since mid season ahead of many of the names we've discussed. I admittedly dont know the kid, but was surprised he was still #1 in central scoutings final rankings. Guess he only played 8 games this year due to injury.

I don't see the Caps jumping on that even if Edler waived. I think they can fill that role for cheaper and with spending assets, there will be physical 4/5/6 Dmen available in free agency
- NorthNuck

They are slated to lose Alzner to free agency and he's the top UFA D next to Shat. Edler is considered better. So with salary retention who do you find as a better fit for Caps?

The real issue IMO for above is getting JB to want it and Edler to agree. Why I suggested contract extension for waiving.

Honestly man I'm pretty sure Washington doesn't want Edler. They don't want his contract and I doubt they want to give up the assets that Van would surely ask for.

Perhaps Anaheim or Ottawa would want him? they seem enamored with our scraps

The only teams that would need Edler, or want him for that matter, probably aren't teams he would waive his NMC for (My mind goes to Dallas/Pheonix/Detroit)

Well our scraps got nice prospects in return. Former Canuck players are in the final four teams playing valued roles. So even though the team has sucked the GM's realize there is something to these players and especially the ones with Cup run experience.

So which is it, Edler not wanting to waive; or no team wanting him?

His salary wouldn't be an issue for teams where Canucks can retain. Is he not at worst a 4/5 for a contender?

Thus isn't the issue really, does JB want to pressure him to waive, and if so, who would Edler say yes to?

I don't think Tanev for the 3OA is enough, and I think Tanev for the 3 OA and a bad goalie contract is too much. I am trying to avoid the hype of drafting another top 10 pick this year. I think Glass or Mittelstadt this year is fine and take another good pick with the 33 rd.

I keep telling myself Tanev for a Landeskog or package for Drouin would be better. I would also look at Tanev to Buffalo for their 2018 first round pick instead. No one here knows who the best Dman is or whether they are a bust or a star. I would take a center.

Whoever said Hutton is over rated is _________, never mind.

First of all no one here has rated him high and secondly how do you know exactly how good or bad a young Dman entering his third year is?

that would be me, I think he has been overrated. I still think he could be good but should never have been playing top4 minutes, let alone 100 games of that type of deployment. I would like Landy or Drouin, prefer that type of move to 3oa too.

I would love Landy over Drouin, and a Tanev trade for him makes sense for both sides.

Edler makes too much for what he would be asked to do ...which is why I chose Brouwer ...probably no deal there

If JB can pull off Landy or Drouin great. As long as trade doesn't involve futures.

Hutton was forced to play more because of injuries plus had his own. Thus, he didn't fair as well last season. So agree we don't know what we have yet. JB was wise to that with bridge deal.

As for taking a goalie contract back in getting a high pick it's only for a season. One where Cap heavy twins are here. So why not?

Sven's 24. Just entering his prime.
I don't buy this poop that somehow this is such a bad draft, I've watched a lot of tape and a lot of these kids play live. There is some excellent talent in the first round. Just not as much as other years, but dont take it too far.

- neem55

So.... you're saying that we're going to be a relevant team for the next 3 yrs?

If so then i withdraw my idea.

If not, than why waste his prime? He'll be 25 next year.

Tanev won't be in his prime when we are relevant again.

Why not get number 2 and three for a pair of seconds and two over the hill roster players.

Or we could go asset management and say that Tanev was free, Sven cost a 2nd. Hutton was a5th.
So for 3 second round picks, a fifth rounder and a collage free agent we get to move up to 3ov from 5ov and get the 2ov pick?

I'm sorry but 3 2nds and a fifth for the 2ov I'd be overjoyed.

Asset management b1tches

you don't need to take everything so literally, clearly there are far worse things going on in the world that don't get recognized and are more tragic. No need to be confrontational all the time here bud. You only poke your nose around here every now and then and every time you are arguing with someone. Remove the pole and take a chill pill

I find it hard to call "Breakfast Club" a classic as within 4 or 5 years, each one of the actors was considered a joke and basically unemployable.
