Sin City?
I like the pick, just would not have expected it as anyone's alltime fave.
Frank Miller is an excellent writer. |

It's pretty great. Maybe swap it with one of The Watchmen, The Dark Knight or First Blood. |

Personally don't think The Watchmen was as good as a movie, though just as iconic as a comic series. |

Doubtful. If I have learned anything from the internet it's that there are multiple idiots who frequent the web. |

Been a while since I bored you (frank)s with a long post... ignore at your leisure!
With Sekera out until at least December-ish and perhaps as late as February, the team might get pigeon-holed into signing Russell longer term than they should. As much as I respect what he brought this season, I can't see him being a positive value contract heading into McDavid's second contract. Having said that, I'm confident that he'll get a contract in light of Sekera's condition heading into next year.
Among players on the market this offseason, we're actually pretty lucky as there'll be a much larger and more active market thanks to the expansion draft. There are 4 guys that standout as great options whom I'd hope the team pesters Las Vegas about.
Calvin DeHaan- Possession-darling LHD with top end puck-moving. Represents the closest replica to Sekera that exists on the market thanks to New York needing to protect Boychuk, Leddy, Hamonic and Pulock. Sekera-lite.
Alex Petrovic- Not-so-loved by "the numbers" but brings some quality tools and an overall effective game. Simple and effective. Gryba-plus.
Mark Pysyk- Ex-Oil King (I know...), shot suppressing puck-moving RHD with solid offensive numbers in effectively a #4/5 role in Florida. Pretty much Petry-lite.
Colin Miller- My personal favourite but also the least likely to be available. A RHD with a history of top-end offense and a damn heavy shot, but didn't seem to impress under Boston's new head coach while the other Miller did. A more aggressive Schultz w/ less talent but a big shot.
TL;DR The Oilers need to add a good, young replacement for Sekera from Vegas after the expansion draft and not rely on internal options (like Russell and Benning) to cover such a major hole. |

I would prefer a veteran on a modest contract in the short term. |

I mean, DeHaan and Pysyk have over 200 games of experience. If not them then a guy like Del Zotto could represent some solid value and bring comparable offensive results to Sekera. However, defensively I think a pairing of he and Russell would be less than effective. |

I thought I read recently that there is a rumbling of an Ebs for Strome and potentially additions for Hamonic.
While I won't hold my breath on any of it I would certainly be happy with that addition early before a Russel signing. Give Russel a 2-3 year deal worth 3-3.5

I'm abit worried by pcs words of being patient and letting this group evolve.
Maybe he really thinks nurse and/or benning can be studs and doesn't wanna make an addition he deems unnecessary.
But as of now, with the resigning of Russel, even when sekera returns, I'm not convinced the defence is good enough to get us to the next step
An impactful acquisition of a guy like Barrie, hamonic or even Tanev is what we need imo. Eliminates the rush to get Reggie back and alllws us to not give Russel something we'll regret (even if I do appreciate what he's done for us ) |

I would certainly entertain such a deal assuming we're not giving up a guy like Bear or Jones in the trade. If it's Eberle and a 1st for Hamonic and Strome I'd definitely entertain that deal. It helps that Hamonic isn't locked up long enough to really limit either Nurse or Benning from moving up.
Doing this would also allow them to sort out their protection list like this:
F: Tavares, Ladd, Nelson, Eberle, Lee, Cizikas and Bailey
D: Boychuk, Leddy and Pulock
G: Greiss
I question whether Isles fans would love the deal, but both Hamonic and Eberle had their struggle this past year and likely aren't far apart in value. |
