So much Russell hate!! I happen to think there are way worse defencemen than him out there. Team player, all guts, tough as nails, clears the zone effectively (regardless of what some of you say), leadership qualities! It is not all about Corsi and whatever else a lot of you want to continually crucify Russell for. He is a solid defenceman - easily bottom 6 pairing and still able to play more minutes and move up to 3-4 defenceman when the need arises.

2.8 mil for 3 years. 5th pairing D - sometimes moved up to 4th when situations dictate it. Answer me this, why did he play more even strength minutes per game than any other Oiler defender? The coaches - who know a lot more than we do - obviously felt that he was their best option. When he was with the Flames - same thing - Hartley constantly played him in all situations and in 3-4 defence positions. I guess that coaching staff saw something in him too. i would gladly take him back on the Flames at the money/term stated and as a 5th pairing D.
