This better fit argument has never made sense to me either. I'm not sure why Patrick is a better fit in theory, if they both pan out as hoped. A team with big 2-way centers who needs scoring and dynamic qualities badly (while still getting a 2-way center) seems the fit to me.
That said, theories aside, I'm not convinced who is the better player. It really is that close to me where they each bring different things to the table. Can't lose here. - Mononoke

I don't think he's not. I think his point is now that the chips have fallen, there's no downside here. - Scoob
Right, I got that impression.
I'm simply saying, if you're having a hard time determining which of the two are a better player (or "fit"), then it's likely because you're still elated that you get to even have that discussion. But if you've "earned" the #1 by handily being the worst team in the NHL, you might be able to state which player you feel is really the better of the two. Or, if nothing else, you'd be able to state which player you want.
Meh. Semantics. I was just offering a different mindset when performing any evaluation. |

Over the last 3 days Vilardi seems to be encroaching toward that #2 pick in some mocks.
doubt Hextall will go there but will be interesting to see how things play out - Crimsoninja

Sort of, I think Jones got some hype prior to his draft year.
I'm talking more about when both players play the same position. |

Well there is some risk of Patrick having issues of durability. Chronic injuries can derail any player regardless of ability. I think that is reason for some pause. |

Uh thanks? What does this have to do with me arguing against whether Patrick is the better fit? |

Tbh, I almost view size as a negative attribute because it's been shown to result in overdrafting. |

You posted that you can't lose here. Uh yes you can. You can lose big time if you draft a player 2nd overall who never reaches his potential because of chronic injuries. You act like a top heralded pick has never failed as a player before. |

I was at that game in '85. I remember my dad bought me and him 2 tickets that cost $50 each to sit in the last row (5) of the third level of the Spectrum. $100 was a TON of money to him but he did it anyway when he knew how bad I wanted to go to that game (I was 14 at the time). When Poulin scored that goal, it was, and still is, the loudest I ever heard a crowd cheer at a hockey game. Great memories for me on a personal level. |

For me the better fit comes in that Patrick looks like a more dominant player on the puck at 5 on 5. We've lacked forwards that really dictate play in the offensive zone 5 on 5 for so long. Not that Nico won't help in that regard as well but yeah, I think Patrick really addresses that need in a big way. |
