Bill:
Thanks for the awesome flashback to my 21 year old self.
Wow, I don't think I can celebratory drink like that now unless I want to take a week off! Good to still have those clear memories before they fade of past Flyer glory years! I loved that 85 team.

Dave Poulin, one of the greatest captains we ever had, and from the University of Notre Dame! If memory serves correctly, I believe that he was wearing a flak jacket that game to protect some cracked ribs? I grew up with that team which is why it is so difficult to watch some of the games lately, that team had a lot of heart, this latest edition, not so much....

I think either way we are getting a future #1 center. It definitely puts the timetable further along than it was last month.

Poulin was the man! Played playoff games with cracked ribs, a broken thumb, dislocated shoulders and probably other injuries we never knew about.

In the pantheon of Flyer's Captains, only Clarke ranks above Mr. Class, Dave Poulin

I'm fine with either. Getting Nolan Patrick would be an unbelievable reward for this season. Reminds me of quite a few top line centers. Basically adding at the least a caliber of player like Ryan Johansen to the fold

Constantly under construction and leads to a dead end.

Sorry couldn't resist.

The more and more I look online people are picking Nico to go first overall. I really think Patrick will be the better fit here anyway. If they get him I'll be over the moon.

I mean if they get Nico instead I won't be moping or anything but I really feel like Patrick is basically the perfect player at the perfect time for us.

Nico/Nolan

Who knows who will be better in 5, 10 years?

But IMHO players like Patrick are harder to come by than players like Hischier. If some injuries in his teen years mean the Devils pass on him I'll be singing and dancing as Hextall/Pryor make their way to the podium to pick our next Good Canadian Kid

Patrick has been on the scouting radar for so long, it actually works against him. The groin injuries are my only concern with him. How did they occur to require surgery? What is being done to prevent further injury? What's the likelihood of reoccurrence? Pretty sure Hexy will get all these answers.

I'm no draft expert, far from it. Hischer has had an unprecedented rise in prospect rankings to be viewed as #1. He may well turn out to be that good, but no other prospect has had this type of rise. I just wonder if Shero would have a concern with that type of hype.

I wouldn't call Hischier's rise unprecedented.

Anyway...just saying...my main point is that I don't think Hextall drafting him #2 means that it isnt a concern. The injuries could be what makes the Devils look away, but they aren't enough to sway Hextall.

Really, I dont think there was much of a point to anything I said. I read your post and it made me think what I wrote above, but my mind trailed off during my typing. I need coffee now. I think the Devils pick Patrick IMHO, FWIW

For lack of better words, does anyone just not care who we get? I'm just thrilled we actually get one of the two (assuming Nico / Nolan go 1 and 2). I've tried hard to pick a favorite over the other but it's been impossible. Both fit a huge need but I just can't give an edge to one over the other.

Yes, this. I've been Team Nico, but I will admit part of that was because Patrick at #1 wasn't on my radar. Thrilled to have either

I was team Nico the first couple of days, but the more tape I watched and more I thought about need/fit, I just couldn't put my finger on which. Bill has turned me onto Patrick more as well with his evaluation in previous weeks.

I'm tormented by Plind's assertion that the best pick in the draft will be whoever is taken #13 where the Flyers SHOULD have picked.

Tormented, sir. Tormented.

I don't think this Flyers team is deep enough at forward for any fan to look down their collective noses at adding either Patrick or Hischier.

Re: Mock drafts having us taking Patrick

There has been a definite change the last week or two in that people think the Devils will be taking Hischier. It makes sense. The Devils offense sucks. They might as well take the bigger offensive threat. And I'll be thrilled if we get Patrick. I feel like he's the better fit for us too.

The Flyers current Top 6 forwards aren't among the league's very best but they have proven very durable over several years now. That's not an attribute to turn your nose up at.

Over the last 3 days Vilardi seems to be encroaching toward that #2 pick in some mocks.

doubt Hextall will go there but will be interesting to see how things play out
