Nylander and a 1st for Carter
- Symba007

When you say "1st" - do you mean Nylander gets to be 1st when running the train with your sister?

i was trying to think of a jvr for carter trade that makes sense.

gets too crazy/complicated if you have to include a poop deal

I agree, seems to me that Leafs will contiue with younger team. They have a nucleus of young forwards. D-men are next. Chicago is the model, they continue to build with young talent. Trading for veterans not likely in my opinion. Manson is a reasonable target, cost won't be excessive and Ducks need to make some moves. A pick and Kapenen might be enough. The more that I think about it, not too many teams have had huge success, signing high profile free agents to big deals. More bad long term deals out there than good, from free agency.

JVR + 3rd round pick + rights to Laich + Rychel + Marincin + Sparks

for

Carter + 4th rounder + 6th rounder + Doughty + Muzzin ($2 million salary retained)

Although us kicking in the 3rd rounder might be a little much...

- Atomic Wedgie

i'd switch the 3rd for horton

Habs sign Price, 8 years $100 million, Markov - 4 years $24 million, then next year trade Price for Henrik Lunqvist straight up, and trade Markov for the rights to Chris Chelios.

for sure, but I don't think that should be a 32 yr old, with 5 years still left on his contract with a cap hit of 5.2M per

Carter would have been great on the leafs years ago.
at 32 and 5.2 million until 2022....not AT ALL what we need. He would be an anchor.

with so little money left on the last 3 years of that deal, it's appealing to me.

as he declines, retirement or trading to cap floor team are a couple of exits on that deal.

You assume that some team would be willing to do in several years. things change.
Way too much risk. Taking on sh!tty contracts is not what the leafs should ever be doing again.
We need the cap space.

my assumption is based on the structure of the contract. i wouldn't assume we would be able to move brown's contract in a few years. that contract doesn't have as many exits.

at some point you need to go for it and add some contracts. kessel's contract will suck it a few years, but a stanley cup (or maybe 2) made it all worth it.

Mike Kostka comes into the picture and then sadly drifts away into oblivion, just like his time as a Maple Leaf.
