Well. He played very well over 6 playoff games and did improve his play near the end of the season, but hasnt been consistently good enough over a long enough stretch to be Labelled "very good" just yet imo.
He will be around for a few years and had his best year for sure. - Fakepartofme
I really dont understand what Fans want with players sometimes
he is not Nik lidstrom we get it. but he has been very good. No need to drop the very part |

As would I, but what if Manson is not available? - PatC80
That's up to Lou. There are few teams with well-documented expansion related issues. He's got to strike that balance to win these pieces. The league has leverage over these teams but have to compete with each other. (This actually kind of worries me considering the moves GM's tend to make in bidding situations) |

Then maybe pay the premium to get trouba. Or settle on Brendan smith.
not a lot of good options out there for that type of player. |

Have a look at their lineup, they will be making moves.
If they protect 4 d-man - Bieksa,Fowler,Lindholm,Vatanen (Biesksa must be protected unless he waves his NTC - and why would he? - live in California on a very good team)
Forwards - Getzlaf,Perry,Kessler,Silfverberg,Rakell,Cogliano, Goalie - Gibson. Its not only a d-man they will expose, they will need to expose at least one, probably two very good forwards. Moves coming.

I do find it both wonderful and frightening that the Leafs currently have only two defencemen worth protecting in the upcoming expansion draft.
But it does put us in a strong position leading up to the expansion draft for tradesies.
Get 'er done, Lou.
Get Lou a sandwich, Kyle.

I agree, he played well above expectations, no reason he can't improve on that. This is where coaching has some impact. Talent is there, not sure why people lust after scoring d-men that were drafted in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, when there is a good 3-4 guy drafted in the 1st with good talent and some upside.

Yeah that's what I thought until I watched him in the series with the Rangers vs Sens. Would rather keep Carrick given his age and salary, still has room to grow. |

No relief on his cap hit of $4 Million, as a player 35+. Full $4 million against the cap, not sure they can afford to do that without a move.

Isn't the 35+ rule only for players that sign new contracts when they're 35 years or older? |

IIHF streams the game live on youtube but with some geo blocking depending on where you live.
I use the Opera browser that has a built in VPN and set my location to Singapore, works perfectly. |
