this is incorrect, Kesler was only willing to waive to Anaheim after forcing a trade. It must be hard being wrong so often Belcher - CanuckDon
This is the only version I am aware of on Kesler. Perhaps Belcher has links to sources he can share for the other version? |

4 drafts after this year, had money to sign Eriksson/Sutter and has made a lot of trades. After the Sedins contracts expire and he's heading into season 5, this is basically Elmer's roster baby. - Nucker101
I know you think I am a huge Benning and Sutter fan . I am not I agree with what most say about both here.
This is a make it or break it year with me for Benning. You are correct he has had three years to lay the ground work so it is time to start seeing some results . I think Boeser is a good example.
JV turned out to be a piss tan so I don't hold Benning responsible .
Sutter as I have said all the time he is a decent third line center. Canucks have so many issues at this point it doesn't matter what you try . You need to clean house. |

Has the JB killed the team with LE and Sutter (Sbisa + DD) contracts debate ended?
What about the Sutter sucks for his play and playing time sulking?
Have we accepted the Sedins aren't going anywhere but it's okay we will suck because of them too?
Anything more to complain about what happned and why there is a bleak future for years ahead? - Nuck4U

NHL and team fairness is like how they apply player safety suspensions. - Nuck4U

That's pretty much it. Those teams will get same treatment they have gotten. Just like with supensions and players safety decisions. NHL knows who to make an example of and when. An established NHL and grass roots hockey market that has no other major sports competitor is always best. Know of any?!? - Nuck4U

Kesler's agent, Kurt Overhardt has high praise for Canucks GM Jim Benning. Says Benning worked very hard with the 2 teams given (Chi-Ana).

"The Hockey News has Cody Glass 10th overall in its pre-draft rankings"
I get it that all these so called experts can differ, but 10th? Fecking Hell

Benning picking Virtanen wasn't a mistake IMO even if I didn't like it. His mistake was rushing him to the NHL and keeping him there. |

I was looking for that quote. - belcherbd
Highlights of Benning's interview:
"With Ryan, when I took the job, he came to me and asked to be moved."
"He gave me a couple of teams that he would be moved to..."
"I didn't want this to fester. We were hoping to get something done before the draft..."
Benning mentions how they were trying to get Kesler to expand his list of teams to be traded to but he remained steadfast on the 2 teams (Chicago and Anaheim). Chicago was in on Kesler until the end.

I believe the Pittsburgh quote I was looking for was actually pre- Benning before the TDL in 2014.
