Still waiting for an alternative plan to a proper rebuild(preferably with details, not generalizations)....no one has posted one yet. - Nucker101
I'll post what I would have done when Benning took over, with the assumption I was free to do so........no wait.......too much work |

What's a "proper" rebuild? If I google proper rebuild what do you think will I find? |

Coulda - shoulda - woulda.....what's important is they move forward with the notion they need to build through the draft, acquire more picks, be better at asset management. This is my hope and wish. - LeftCoaster
They were just examples of two players drafted in close session that are elite hockey talent. |

I've proposed what I'd like to see done during the next 2-3 years a couple of pages ago. Still waiting for yours... |

Alright, but what would you like to see happen during the next 2-3 years? - Nucker101
This is a very important question. I personally, would like to see safe1st round picks, not taking gambles on players such as Mittlestadt (unknown because it is hard to judge high school hockey), Makar, because of league he plays in and Liljegren who has played horrible even after being healthy from his mono outbreak.
Taking some risk in later rounds for some skill players, whether they be from Europe, USHL or Junior leagues is fine. We need some for sure prospects first.
Taking a couple players with some aggressiveness also is a must. We need a good mix of ALL sorts.
I would love to see a couple really good puck movers added to the system, but being developed in a league of men for a couple years before being inserted into line up.
We absolutely have to move on from the Sedin's et al. Trading of a few veterans like Tanev packaged with Baertschi (example), would be something that will help bring a nicer return. Gudbrandson being moved after we have an established core should be a reality.
Absolutely no long term contracts like Louie & trade him when his contract is reduced from NMC to a limited NTC.
Last but not least, give this management team one last season for signs of a clearer direction. |

This is the first thing I found.

I helped a friend, custom build a small block V8 once in his El Camino. I never want to participate in building an engine again. |

Both teams were fortunate once, winning a lottery with slim odds, the other picks were actually just good picks.
Benning hasn't been fortunate and he hasn't made a great pick yet....but there's certainly hope for Boeser and Juolevi!! |

Looking at a scenario below that's been alluded too but adding more meat to the concept and how it can unfold.
The stars move for trade and signing of Bishop is a win now move. Next they need to improve their D with a trade. The 3OA pick will not help their retool for years. By then the window is closed. So why not trade it for a top pairing D. Are any available? Well Tanev could be. Plus sending out cap dump Lehtonan as well for say Gartieg and perhaps Subban would make it palatable too. Stars get a 3rd goalie insurance to develop plus a prospect who's made for new NHL. He could step in now, as PP specialist, during their window. Tanev as an add is cap friendly for a top pairing D. Then Stars could bid high for UFA Shatenkirk having also shed Lehtonan. Wouldn't all that be worth it for the Stars to trade a 3OA who will take years to be NHL ready? Plus they still have a first rounder to take someone to develop for the next retool.
As for Nucks if they are able to pull this off who do they pick at 3OA? Then 5OA? Guess it depends on what Avs want. We can assume Nico and Nolan will be gone. So at 3OA if Avs want D then take Heiskenan. Leave Avs Makar and Liljegren to ponder. Or have them bite on Vilardi. Then JB can make the 5OA either Glass or Mittlestadt having taken his future top pairing D. If this can be done before the expansion draft. Then Sbisa will be your vet stop gap for future D like OJ, Brisbois and Heiskenan to get integrated. If not, they could integrate one with Pedan if no other cast off UFA D isn't willing to sign here.
It's a win win scenario for both teams. Stars use the retool to push their current offensive stars with added D and tending for Cup run in next couple years. Canucks add two core pieces at D & C for rebuild that makes them competative in a couple years. |
