Lefty, I really don't like the idea of trading down. Everyone on here is confused about the draft order between 3-10 so it appears to make sense if you can add an asset. But, Benning will have a well defined draft list. There are no assurances that whoever he has as BPA at 5 will be available at 6 or 7 or 8. He has to take the best player in his list. An organization only gets so many chances at a top 5 pick and trading it is crazy

Lefty has preached all year about getting high draft picks and now that we have one he wants to move down

Yes, I find the idea of trading out of the top 5 insane. The only exception is if another team in the top 10 is desperate to draft a player at 5 you don't want and they will pay a huge premium. An unlikely scenario. Benning should NOT shop the pick

Not everyone peaks then.

52 pick this year, i'm not sure. I'm very optimistic of prospects abilities normally. Usually i'm in with players up till the 4th round that I think can become solid NHL regulars.

At that point in time I would start swinging for the fences if I was JB. I think I have Mason Shaw from Medicine Hat there in my mock. David Farrance or Nick Henry are my other choices for Van's around there.

I would be pretty thrilled with Shaw at 56. Not sure if he will still be there though.

How you like Veleno for 2018. So many top kids. Could be a 6 way battle for 1st overall.

I know he said move to seven but Vegas don't really have anything and need everything so why give things up ?

That would leave Arizona who are more set at center than we are and have a better D pool also.

Yup, targeting players in their prime makes no sense. 21 or under

Trade everyone over 21 for picks!

Just spit-balling with ideas, not set on anything, simply a thought if things play-out like this....

NJ - Hischier
Philly - Patrick
Dallas - Mittelstadt
Avs - Glass

If that happens I think they can get a skilled center (Pettersson) at 7th, for instance, and get another second round pick for it.

AVs have McKinnon Duchene Jost , I don't see them taking a center when they need D

Yup I agree, although Mittelstadt does play LW as well, just toying with ideas. If Dallas takes Glass.

If Dallas and Colorado both take dmen then it's a no-brainer to take Glass or Mittelstadt.

I don't know, he's not really an offensive stud, he's more like Juolevi, we need a skilled center way more than we need another Juolevi imo.

He could be a PP QB. Better skater than Juolevi and he is more comfortable on the rush. I want a center as well but it would be tough passing on the top D if he falls

Scouting Report...

"March 2017 – Heiskanen is elite skating defenceman with plenty of speed and mobility. Already playing against men in Liiga he is an excellent puck mover and transition defenceman. His offensive ceiling is not too high and he may never quarterback the powerplay but he has good hockey sense, is ahead of his years in his defensive play. Heiskanen needs to add some bulk to his slight frame to be effective in North America but he is already proven at the pro level and may have a shorter path to the NHL than some other draft eligible defencemen."

I think there's always good defensemen available in the second round. If you move back two spots and pick up a second round pick you now have three seconds.

Yup....just thinking I'd like to maximize our picks while still getting a really talented kid (Pettersson). At the end of the day I believe they'll get either Mittelstadt or Glass at #5.

To me Pettersson is as good as Mittelstadt or Glass.

Yes the scouting report doesn't compute for me. Elite skater with high IQ and he can't QB the power play? Why not? Simply due to his shot? He is 17 and can progress

I've played with a lot of guys who were excellent skaters and had good hockey IQ's but they just weren't highend offensive guys. They don't always go hand in hand.

not only can the organization not let go of our past but now it's filtered down to our prospects
