If they can move a forward, but they have about $10 Million to fill 8 spots, they want Shattenkirk or Trouba, but right now, they can't spend much.

I expect a bipolar summer from sweeney. He'll be all over the place.

Hischier or Patrick will look pretty good on their team next season.

Lucky bastards.

Holm with his 3rd point of the game.

Typical Laffs fans, this guy's the new saviour.

Not so sure a number one pick in a weak draft year is such a huge blessing. The pick will still want top coin, and if he turns out to be Daigle or Yakupov then you tie up $7
million on a sack of poo. We'll see, but not all first and seconds are created equal, although their agents want equal pay. Just saying.

Oh for sure, it's not the best year to get a top pick.

But whenever you get to draft the top talent of a draft year, the odds are in your favor that you just helped your franchise considerably.

I'm sure the Flyers are very, very happy drafting 2nd instead of 10th.

I agree with you. But because NHL exists in a salary cap world, the salary you may have to tie up in a top pick might not be worth it. To a cap team like Philly, it makes a difference, to a bottom feeding/bankrupt team like the Coyotes, not so much. Edmonton had three firsts before McDavid, all three are overpaid except maybe Hall relative to their production.

I feel like this is more on Edmonton paying all their first overalls huge amount of money before they proved anything. They gave RNH way too much way too soon for example... and now he's a 6M 3rd line centre.

They had the smarts not to do it with Yakupov at least....

Price/Bishop would be a pretty good 14M tandem!

If the Leafs draft Brannstrom, and sign Holm and Rosen, we're gonna have a very swedish blue line in the not-too-distant future.

Yeah that's pretty unlikely.

What about Tanev for Price straight up

The team management and agents have a part, I agree, but the level of dedication/desire by the player. You may be too young, but the Habs drafted first overall in 1980 - a guy named Wickenheiser - wasn't so hot, Erik Johnson on St Louis was a first rounder, Patrick Stephan and Rick Dipietro all sucked. (Wade Redden another example) But for the most part, a big blessing to pick first overall or second for that matter. Will either pick be as good as Laine? I have my doubts.

I'd rather wait and see if the Leafs can't give us Carrick Leipsick and a 2nd for Price.

Maybe if the Habs ate part of his salary?

The Habs drafting Wickenheiser over Savard was a complete traversty.

Johnson is still a very good player, just not the game breaker some other first overall players are.

But I see your point, and I agree that both players this year won't have the same impact at Matthews/Laine had this year.

I'd still take either Patrick or Nico on my team anyday.

Leipsic, Carrick and a 2nd can get you anything.

This is the new Halak, Ryder and a 2nd!

you won't be so happy when Bergeron signs Price to a 8 year $100 Million contract with NTC though.

Call me an eternal optimist but Price's comments at the end of the season about understanding that him getting more money means less will be available to improve the team and that it will be taken into account makes me believe he'll get closer to what Lundqvist is earning. Kinda like how Crosby didn't ask for the maxmimum possible with the Pens.

Hopefully I'm not dreaming here.

Hopefully the Leafs pursue and sign Shattenkirk to a big money deal.

... well hopefully Flyers trade Sanheim for Leipsic and a 4th
