Mason has been damn good in his time with the Flyers. This should be an easy decision that should have been dealt with earlier in the year instead of letting it go for so long.

That Neuvirth contract is asinine to begin with

My bet is either Mason or Fleury end up in Calgary. And I could see the Flames going after Mason quickly so not to be left out again. I know there were reports they tried twice to get Bishop but lucked out.

For me I would be interested in Fleury if bought out. I still think Anders Nilsson on a cheap bridge deal. Something like 2-3 years at 3-3.5 per could be a nice transition to our goalie prospects. Not much risk.

I wonder if there is someone they might see overseas that they could bring over to compete.

I'd be fine with Fleury, don't think he'll be bought out though. I could see a team having a deal in place with the Flyers 1st, then getting him from Pittsburgh and sending him to us. He's only signed for 2 more years, so I'm not too concerned about the dollars, but they could probably cut a deal where the other team eats maybe 1 million per. That would leave the Flyers with 2 years, 4.75 million per which shouldn't be a cap hardship.

Nilsson could work too, doubt it would take more than 2 years, 6 million to get him signed. It's a buyers market.

It's only a vibe of course, but I'd bet my ass Hak doesn't wasn't him back.
- flyer_nutter

I would agree with your "vibe". It's one of the main reasons that Hak pisses me off...questionable lineup decisions game in and game out, starting with the goalies!

They need to...aren't any better options out there and having a tandem of Neuvirth/Stolarz isn't a recipe for success.

Hell I would take Lehtonen off Dallas' hands as long as they take MacDonald off ours. Kari has had his moments and has only a year or 2 left on his deal.

Dallas did us a huge favor trading for his rights. Wasn't even an option for Hextall to mess it up.

I had faith he wouldn't, but now we can sleep much better at night knowing for sure.

Tomorrow's headline...

Flyers trade (insert D prospect) and Matt Read to the Dallas Stars for Ben Bishop.

MacDonald has three years left on his. No way Dallas would do that.

No way Vegas picks Neuvy in ED.
So trade him, selling the whole change of scenery story etc to potential clients/suckers.

Then make a deal for that Hamburgelar kid in Ott and his 1.5 contract to back up Mase.
He fits criteria of a non threat to keep Mason's fragile mind from thinking he is not the clear number 1.

"This allows us to focus on signing Chris Vandevelde to an extension", Hextall told reporters.

If the goalie who had the worst save percentage in the NHL among qualified goalies last year is worth 2 years at $2.5M, what would someone in the top-20 get? $11 Billion?

Bishop is a classic example of as to why the UFA market is dead. Seems the value is found in the low paid guys who can provide depth more than anything. Happy the Flyers decided to stay away from Bishop, or at the very least the Holmgren special of trading for his rights.

Truthfully it seems guys like Hart and Sandstrom are a few years out. Not to be a downer on Lyon/Stolarz but will be annoying if mediocre goaltending is the norm for the next few years.

The other thing is - if Masons demands are too high I guess that would make sense to not sign him.

I just simply can't believe if they managed the tandem better, and didn't ride his ass into the ground that he wouldn't have been okay for a 3 year deal at reasonable salary if he was offered that sooner in the year.

Quite honestly, it seems to be they basically have drove him out of town and I can't blame him. Still hope a deal can be made, and see him play in front of a better team.

The Flyers did not ride his ass into the ground. Mason ranked 24th, 17th, and 16th in the NHL in games played the last 3 NHL seasons.

First you state that if his demands are too high it makes sense not to sign him, then you state they rode him into the ground and drove him out of town.
