All of these depend on what the contract is. Neuvirth getting 2.5 already throws the whole thing out of whack unless these guys are willing to come in under 4 mil. Out of all of them I only see that maybe being Halak.
But then again I could just be misreading the market. - MBFlyerfan
Halak has one year left at $4.5m. Miller will stay out West with his actress wife, and Bishop is about to sign with Dallas per Lebrun.
That leaves four main UFA goalies - Mason, Bernier, Elliott and Johnson. Budaj I think is too old to be considered as a starter, but Condon could be a dark horse candidate.

Most teams don't need a starter so these guys aren't all going to get big contracts. |

I think you are misreading the market a bit (FYI Halak is signed for one more year at 4.5 million, but the Flyers probably wouldn't have interested unless the Isles are eating some of the $$$)
Miller will be 37 in July and is not the Ryan Miller of 10 years ago, though he still put up some pretty good numbers behind a crappy Canucks team. That being said, I doubt he gets more than 4-4.5 million on a 1 year deal or maybe 7 million over 2 years.
Bernier has yet to establish himself as a legit NHL starter so I can't see him getting any kind of deal paying him more than 3 million per. I think with him, 1 year at 3 million is pretty likely.

Yeah, Calgary. Vancouver, Colorado, Philly. The teams that have #1 UFA goalies. |

With goalies it is usually one or two big signings for guys who are new starters or established starters with certain teams. After that, the market dries up and guys are left taking much less than they would if they were in the former group. Neuvirth was a starter and still couldn't find himself getting that type of contract and took 1.25 to play with the Flyers. Greiss was in a similar situation, but wound up winning a starter role for the Islanders |

Neuvirth for Halak? - Feanor
Would be sweet. They have 3 goalies, but I don't think Berube is all that good
I know he went there at the trade deadline, but didn't need to do too much. He wasn't a great backup for them. That was right before he signed with the Flyers! |

Neuvirth for Halak? - Feanor
I'm thinking it would be something like one of their 4th round picks for Halak and the Isles retain a third of the contract. That way their total cap allotment for goal is 5.5 million which is a couple hundred grand less than it was for 16-17.
Halak's deal is also up after this upcoming season, so he'd be playing for his next contract which could be a benefit as well.

I think part of the benefit of trading for Halak is that they can absorb his salary. I would actually do that with retained salary on the Flyers end, but I doubt that happens. |

Shame about Mason. At this point I just hope something can be done to salvage the relationship between the two parties. I don't see a better option for the Flyers right now. |

And that sets the market.
Mason, at best, isn't going see anything better than 3 years, 10.5 million. And I'm not sure how many teams will even have interest. Figure that Sandstrom at best won't be ready before 19-20 and Hart 20-21, I could see the Flyers offering Mason basically the same deal he just came off of: 3 years, 12 million. And while it might not be his dream situation, money talks. If it's clearly the best offer, he's going to take it.
I'm not sold on Stolarz or Lyon as future NHL goalies, and I certainly don't think either has near the potential of Sandstrom or Hart. Signing Mason to a 3 year deal would actually make sense. You'd have Mason and Neuvirth for 17-18 and probably the same for 18-19. If Stolarz or Lyon can win a job in 18-19, you deal Neuvirth.
by 19-20, you are probably looking at Mason and Sandstrom with Hart breathing down their necks in the AHL. Makes sense to me.

Could always offer Islander killer(more so in the past) Matt Read in exchange to balance some of that salary. |

Guessing someone is getting bought out (the other 2 are both going into the last year of their deals), but either way, it's not a good situation.

I'd be really surprised if Hextall wanted to be tied to Mason for the rest of the decade. |

Terrible contract for a player that has already seemed to have depreciated. Dallas defense is also pretty awful. Lehtonen 2.0 |

Dallas did us a huge favor trading for his rights. Wasn't even an option for Hextall to mess it up.
I had faith he wouldn't, but now we can sleep much better at night knowing for sure. |
