Kind of a large price to pay for a top two defender who is soft and doesn't bring intangibles like grit. Fowler is a solid defender but come on we have to be getting something serious to be giving up a lotto ticket in next years draft plus kovalchuk....
- blizzzard

That trades abysmally bad, we'd be giving the ducks a potentially insane pick and the winger they need to win. So we're helping them get the pick, giving them a potentially huge prospect piece when they're winning now and could help them when the core is done while we get 1 defenseman who could play much worse (likely) on a Less competitive team then walk in a year? Get the (frank) out

I don't think there's anything in the rules against this but Kovy's agent is never talking to you again, neither is the GM you screwed over, and probably a few other GMs.
- rmdevil313

Amazing how that works. He does that to us and everyone wants him lol but you play that game back all of a sudden you're the bastard.

Have you guys been on the Devils subreddit? Someone suggested we trade Kovy and next years first for Fowler LOL they got super mad when I said that was just outlandish
- sendingSTRENGTH

I don't think we should move our 2018 pick for anything other than a stud prospect. That draft is loaded at the top, where we are projected to pick.

Sure he wasn't trolling lol Or do the common Devils fan really think we are going to be competitive next season ???

Dream situation here but kovy leads a bunch of KHLers over to vegas and we package him and Cory for the grand jackpot of picks lmao.

Won't be that trade anyway; Anaheim is likely to move Fowler (or decide to keep him) before July 1.

If we sign him for say 3 years then we get 3 years of a top 6 RW which we need. Hell even if its a 1 year deal Kovy would definitely get more than (frank)in Martin Hanzal at the deadline. Also, I'd love to know how this hypothetical team is going to turn a 2nd round pick into a good top 6 forward if we don't give them kovy.
- rmdevil313

Easy.
Draft a dman with 2nd rounder.
Sign Oshie.

Well they'll be paying that much for Oshie, but they shouldn't expect the same numbers...

yes Oshie at like 7 million for 6 years or Kovy at 6 mil for like 3 years I don't even have to think about who I would want as one might cost assets the other is going to kill you're cap situation in 2-3 years.

That's if you give a better offer than everyone else for Oshie.

Of course, he could just say "If you aren't trading me, I'm not coming back."

How about Rangers trade Stepan & Miller for Kov then immediately trade for top d man and decent center.

He could say that, but I think he wants a long term contract like 3-4 years and he won't be getting that next year when he's 35.

I would actually do that.

Why don't the Devils go after Brodin instead of Fowler, he would cost cheaper and be better defensively.

To MIN:
BOS 2017 2nd
NJ 2018 2nd
Something Else?

To NJ:
Brodin
Pominville(they are trying to trade him, I believe)

No one guy is going to kill our cap situation. Our payroll is tiny even with Clowe and Savard eating almost $9M. Spend a buck for (frank) sake.

I was speaking as the team that would be trying to sign Oshie over trading for Kovy, as the poster I replied to suggested that it would be easy for a team to just go and sign Oshie for free. It would not be the same lol. So I was saying I would still rather trade for kovy then be stuck with Oshie, who I still think is worse then Kovy and will likely have to sign him for more and longer term as he will be on the OPEN market.

Devils have the cap. but they shouldn't spend just to spend. They need to do it in a smart manner and not put themselves into a dumb position 2-3 years down the road.

Orlov is so good. If the Caps decide to tear it down, I know I'd want him.

If Shero is slick, he trades for Lehtinen, and gets and asset in return for absorbing the contract. Then he deals Lehtinen, absorbing cost, for another asset. While Lehtinen is not great, I am pretty confident, that if his price tag is $1-2 million (with Devils eating the rest) someone will be a lot more interested than they are now. By flipping him, they get an extra asset for absorbing the cost.
