My dream scenario is prying Ovechkin away from the Caps when he is finally sick of losing in the second round. - JRR1285
And why is it that they can't get through the 2nd round, do you think? Ovie is as one dimensional as they come. I wouldn't trade good assets just to acquire another type of problem. |

Here is what I think.
First the good. The Rangers are a good damn hockey team that have played a crazy number of playoff games in the last several years. After going through a decade of not even making the playoffs, its hard not to appreciate that, even when they've been unable to achieve the ultimate goal.
Now the bad, for the reasons stated above, I appreciate the core group of players that have been here over the last several years. But, in the end, they have been good enough to make you taste the promise land, but simply not good enough to get there. I think this group had a two year window (the Cup finals and President's Trophy year) where they really had a legit shot to win the Stanley Cup. Now, I think they've fallen back below that elite tier and what we saw in this series is more of what we can expect if they don't start to turn over the roster a little.
So, what to do? I think the Rangers need to start turning over this roster a little. I think they need to take advantage of some of the older assets they have by cashing them in for younger players. It would be stupid to do this all at once, but they need to be actively looking for such deals, and pounce when the right one arises. Honestly, I think you can have a two year remake when you are still competitive, maybe compete for the playoffs, but cycle the roster to get younger.
The Brassard for Zibby deal is the exact type of deal the Rangers should be looking at.
On Girardi and Staal, I am hesitant to buy those guys out when the buyout number would have a long-term impact. I am more concerned what the Rangers cap number will look like next year then in 2-3 years when I think a re-tool of the roster which I think can make them really competitive again.
I don't think anybody is really safe if the right deal comes along, but obviously there are a few that will likely be a significant part of the next core of this team. |

Love Ovie, rooting for the Caps tonight.
They lose and he demands a trade to the Rangers for Stepan, Klein and Holden. - Fenrir
I'd like to see him win. He's the most "entertaining" payer in the game in my opinion.
And if he wins, we wont have to deal with another 365 days of Pierre blowing Cindy everytime the word "hockey" is mentioned |

You can't pin that all on Ovechkin but I see where you are coming from. |

Hey guys tough loss really though the rangers had the better of play but Ottawa seemed to want it more. Question, where was Kreider all series? If he put in half the effort he did in the 3rd period last night it might have been a better result. |

Unfortunately, nothing will change until Lundqvist goes. Now, before the I'm a Hank hater crowd jumps in, I have nothing against him. He's been the face of the franchise, and as accomplished a great deal. But, he's unlucky. And I'm happy for him that he's won gold medals and alike, but it don't mean squat. When your the highest paid player on the team, and at the position in the league, you're expected to rise above the shortcomings and deliver the team to the promise land.
And there inlies the rub. No goalie, in today's game can be expected to the be all, that ends all. It's a flawed philosophy, and once again it's reared its ugly head.
It's sad in a way, because I'm quite certain Lunndqvist wants to win a cup badly, it would round out his trophy case nicely. But, it's not gonna happen here, never was, never will. Until he goes, nothing will change. - OLDSCHOOL#6

We see with Staal how a NMC can absolutely hamstring you. Stepan has to be dealt before his NTC kicks in July 1. I'd be less urgent about it if he didn't have that damn NTC.
Any shot we get Staal to drop his NTC to play with his brothers? And even so, we'd need to eat half his salary for FOUR years.
Fixing this defense is going to be difficult. |

That Hawks fan nailed it last night, the Rangers don't have that Toewes, Crysby, Ovie type of player. Nash is not the game breaker we hoped he would be, and it's becoming clear that Miller, Kreider and Hayes are never going to develop into what we all hoped for. - Fenrir
Miller may have pissed me off more than any other player this post season. He showed this year what a talent he can be. Someone on here said he (and Hayes) have no hockey IQ, I disagree. He sees the game very well. Very well. He just showed in these playoffs that he won't take the punishment it takes to get it done in the playoffs. I can remember two times, 2 GOD DAMN TIMES, where on a rush he did something other than curl back along the boards and look to pass, which most of the time didn't even happen.
I've really liked the kid and thought he would be a cornerstone going forward, but regular season success isn't what we're after. He needs to be traded to fill our needs before he can erode his value. |

I am so disturbed at Kreider right now
watching him in the 3rd, you knew he had that in him, why did he hold back? I just don't get it - jimbro83
He's a cocky assclown. Only showed up when it meant the end of the season. He is not a leader and not someone to build around. |

I am going to take a shot at this one, and say that I wouldn't be surprised to see a deal between the Rangers and Montreal on Stepan. And if I had to guess it would be something like Stepan for Alex Galchenyuk.

I'd like to see ovie win too but most entertaining player in the game? Mcdavid takes that, even Crosby is above and I despise him. Ovie used to be dynamic now he shoots on the power play or dumps it I'm. He doesn't really make the players around him better, he needs help |

Maybe Arizona, cap hit exceeds salary each year as salary declines. Seems to be their way. And they are a looooong way from cap floor with Pronger/Datsyuk hits gone. |

That contract is the most problematic contract on this team. There is another contract that has the potential to be really problematic as well.

He really is, so much personality out there. Nothing more I want than for them to beat the Pens tonight.
If they do, the media will chalk that up to Cindy being "off" because of the concussion. |
