I think they need to just buyout Staal, not G. I feel that would be too much Cap Space lost for both buyouts. G played better this season and showed with a longer offseason, he can still play (maybe at least sheltered minutes). Staal is clearly a shell of his former self. It's a shame because he was such a solid Dman before the injuries. With that the remaining D to start the rest of the offseason should be McD, Skeji, G. Bring back Smith and look to get a top 4. Either drop Holden or keep him as 7th D.
I haven't followed our AHL team so is there a Dman that can/is ready to step up? Graves? Another? - Hedgedog32
Agreed. Can't start next season with both of them on the roster, my money is on Staal to be bought out. As much as it hurts to have the dead cap space, it will hurt even more to have him on the roster.
Mac is not C material. I read it was offered to Zucc, but he is still having trouble articulating after the injury.
What can we realistically get for Step? A pick at the draft?
Nash has another year left, wouldn't be opposed to keeping him at a reduced rate and trading or signing a big time player to accompany him.
Hayes and Miller didn't show up at all, and it took Kreider 5 1/2 games to finally wake up.
Arniel has to go. Beuk hasn't been much better than Ulfie. My feeling is that is on AV. Most of this lands on AV. The rest is on the players for not putting forth the effort needed to win.
Ottawa came to win and the Rangers didn't. |

Jan,
Great job on the blogs especially on the mornings / nights when they are tough to write. You keep it all together here and give us knuckleheads a place to voice opinions, argue, and veer off onto other topics that have nothing to do with your blog when we get distracted. I wanted to send you my appreciation for all your work this years and in years past.

Arneil should've been fired already not sure who's gonna be out there that's a pure goal scoring shoot first sniper cause that's what this team needs as well as fixing the defense. |

That Hawks fan nailed it last night, the Rangers don't have that Toewes, Crysby, Ovie type of player. Nash is not the game breaker we hoped he would be, and it's becoming clear that Miller, Kreider and Hayes are never going to develop into what we all hoped for. |

Kreider is only making 4.6 million which is fine for a 2nd line winger type money in today's game, which is what he is |

we kind of always end up in this same exact thought every summer
they're never gonna be the worst team in the league, and those guys always go at the top of the draft
it's never going to happen |

Rick Nash may not be the game breaker they were hoping for but still a very solid player in most ways. I would have no issue seeing him stick around past the end of his contract for the right price.
Stepan should be gone at this point. Girardi might be serviceable as third pairing but makes too much money for that. Staal has to be gone. Holden should be gone too but he might be workable as well with some tweaks to his game.
McDonagh is a very good player but he reminds me of Leetch leadership wise. It's not for him. That really pains me to realize since I wanted him more than anyone else on the team to get the "C". |

My dream scenario is prying Ovechkin away from the Caps when he is finally sick of losing in the second round. |

I M O ...we under performed & it was our undoing...
CANt not close out games with leads....
usual reasons for the loss last nite ...
#1 goalie Anderson beat HANK ...
as usual all will be overly critical of A V's deployment & other wise ..notmystyle,
I E Zucc standing right next to Hoffman BUT looking other way when tip deflect play GOAL ...
Stones goal was a back breaker & D missed the play to make...
D last nite was the weakest of the series : OTTs found sum game
we missed our plays ....Ryans down the left side was a nothing play we let grow into a GOAL...
O K off season... Probably the most important off season since last expansion draft ..gonna change the profiles of all the teams ...
Our biggest need is atop center we can get
Exposure for NYR must be guys like NAsh Hank Stepon unless contractually written to must protect....
Buy outs ,trades ,F A ,s all are in play to have another successful off season
like last ,we didnt know what to expect this year and were pleasantly surprised .... I see a strong off season for NYR and a promising future..L G R
if not traded so if picked we have the cap space & personnel to replace... |

Congrats! You guys deserved the series. The Sens played with urgency and heart when they had to. It sucks because I think the Rangers blew huge opportunities in this series, but I can believe that and still believe that the Senators made their own destiny and deserved it. The games aren't 57 minutes long, and the Rangers paid a price for not being able to hold leads.

Love Ovie, rooting for the Caps tonight.
They lose and he demands a trade to the Rangers for Stepan, Klein and Holden. |
