I kill nash a lot as we know, he's a great two way player, but he's the kind of change im talking about. I can't deal with him anymore. He has no emotion. As a leader, and damned well better be considered a leader considering age, longevity and things alike that, the team takes on the persona of guys like him. Mac, Staal, Girardi and Stepan too. These are nice guys, nice people, and isn't working. These guys are seriously getting a pass that they don't deserve anymore

If Nash is a Ranger after next year I'm going to lose my poop.

- Slimtj100

If he's back it will be on a reasonable contract I'm sure, clearly he wants to be here and a home town discount isn't out of the question

Pretty much my thoughts.

I'm sure Gorton sees it that way too, judging by last years moves.

Its why when I see people say get rid of Miller, Hayes, Kreider, etc. doesn't really make much sense. So we are going to throw away our young core? I mean if one of them is traded and the team gets better so be it, but foolish to think they should all be gone because of 1 playoff year.

- mdw7413

I sure hope Gorton sees it that way!
For me, I want no part of Shatty unless it's a deal with a max. of 5 years and $5-5.5M. Anything longer or more expensive than that will be a killer in a few years time. And THAT is how he will cost us more than just cash, Vin.
His D zone play is not worth selling the future for, regardless of what he can do on the PP.

With the exception of a handful of players in the league, I really don't think that anyone is untouchable in the right deal. I would say that Zibby is the team's most important forward right now, by virtue of the position he plays and the Rangers lack of organizational center depth. For that same reason, Hayes is important as well. In short, can't really trade a center unless you find away to get one back.
- Pete V

Well one positive of Hayes he was pretty good in F/O % during the playoffs. His defensive game was there, but other than 1 or 2 games he was very tentative on offense.

there is definitely truth in the theory that the NHL salary cap saved the NY Rangers from themselves and was a big part of their turn around since 2005

but I hate, HATE the way it makes us hate our own players.

- jimbro83

Example 1, Dubinsky. Fan favorite. Signed a big contract. Didn't produce. And the fans turned on him. Why? Because when you make that kind of money, you need to produce, plain and simple.

Example 2, Girardi. Do you think people would be talking buyout if he made $4 million annually, instead of $5.5 million? Hell, if he hit the open market right now, I think he could make $4 million annually for 2-3 years.

to be fair about Dubinsky, I definitely remember quite a few fights defending him when he was making 1.85 mil a year. a hot button guy for sure regardless of the $$$

Yeah, I wouldn't have an issue at the right number and term. Shattenkirk is funny, he is either over praised or under praised. No middle ground it seems. One thing I do know he automatically becomes the Rangers best right side player no matter the circumstances.

If we're talking about pipedream trades, then I want this one:

Step, Miller and whatever else it takes (1st rd pick + prospect?) for Malkin.

Geno is an absolute beast and has never had the chance to be THE guy on his team. Except for when Crosby has been hurt and then he scores ~1.3 points/game!
There goes worrying about having a true 1C. Throw Nash on his wing and you instantly have one of the best lines in hockey.

And,..... go, Gorton! GO!!!!!!

yep

I am really not worried about Shatty's supposed deficiencies because I know he'd either be paired with McDonagh or Skjei with the Rangers.

As crazy is this sounds, Malkin is one of the most underrated players in the game. I feel like he gets overshadowed sometimes, because honestly, I think he is one of the Top 5 players in the game consistently, but yet you don't here as much about him.

But, the Penguins know how good he is, so I doubt he's going anywhere.

That's how I keep looking at it as well. He will be covered by a better defenseman and either of those two can produce offensively as well.

Just so we're clear on this one, I have no problem with the player. I am not killing him. It's just not he move I would like to see right now. With that said, I think it would definitely help next year. I just don't know if it helps enough.

Pittsburgh isn't sending Malkin to a team within their division, hell would freeze over before that would happen

Improvement for sure and I want him just not at 6.5mm. Especially since we'd have to buyout Girardi or Staal to get it done so we'll have like 10mm cap space allocated towards Shatty and the buyout.

Just want to thank you the Rangers one last time. I wanted to enjoy seeing them win a championship while spending that quality time with the person that introduced me to them and the sport. Now I won't be able to. Can always count on the Rangers.

For me it's less about money and more about reaching what I think should be potential, I think for Step his potential isn't going to reached, he's shown he can be a 65 to 70 point producer but it's not gonna happen and with how far we are along in the process with this core his cap hit now has meaning.

Is that what's been going on with you?? Sorry for your loss, or impending one. But this seems like some very misplaced anger.

Oh, I know these things. That's why I classified it as a pipedream. And Jim is probably correct as well that they would be loathe to trade him in the division.
But, at the same time, I think we really do have the assets it would take if Gorton wanted to actually explore it. Not that I think it has a chance of truly happening.
