Instead of Vatanen maybe we could get Manson and a high pick for Miller - KreiderBomb

So, in watching the last 10 minutes of the Pens/Caps game, it was hard not to notice how the Pens strangled that game. The Caps barely got a sniff late in that game. That's how you hold a lead, I hate to say. And it was hard not to notice that the Pens forwards were a big part of that. We give our defense a lot of grief for not holding these leads, but it's easier to do so when the other team's offense isn't hitting your defensive zone like German tanks rolling towards France. The fact is that protecting a lead is not all about the defense, it's about your forwards being able to muck it up in the neutral zone, so you aren't spending all of your time in defensive zone.
In short, I don't think the Rangers inability to hold leads was all a defense problem -- I think it is a team defense issue. - Pete V
I had a dream they fired Gernander in Hartford, made Beukeboom the head coach in Hartford and then Dan Girardi retired due to wear and tear and was made assistant coach with the Rangers. |

To improve their team's offensive production including on the power play starting from the back line, if Shattenkirk (Age 28, career +17 rating) is not their first RH option (but only if willing to accept a minimum 20% less salary, & a 2 or 3 year shorter term than the rumored demands of $6M-$7M annually for 5 to 7 years, to play for his favorite team when raised in New Rochelle, NY), there are very few other capable RHD options that might be available at a certain required cost.
Brett Pesce (Age 22, career +16) - (local kid few minutes from practice facility)
Justin Faulk (Age 25, career -83) - (for the Shatty haters)
But would Carolina be willing to trade either of those two in their division?
Sami Vatanen (Age 25, career +28) - (Anaheim depth on Defense)
If having to go the Left Handed route:
Jonas Brodin (Age 23, career +24) - (Minnesota, with Dumba (RH) likely not available)
Cam Fowler (Age 25, career -39) - (Anaheim depth...& also for the Shatty haters)
Pesce has 1 year left at $809K prior to becoming an RFA, while Fowler has 1 year left at $4M prior to being a UFA. The others range between roughly $4M to $5M per year, with longer term remaining on their current deals.
The best possible available alternate to signing Shatty as a UFA would be a trade for Vatanen, or possibly Pesce if made available within the same division. But in the case of Pesce, AV hates "kids". But it's funny that he loved Skjei during the 2016 series loss to the Penguins. - RangerSaver
Shatty for free and Vatanen for Miller seem like a pretty decent upgrade to me |

Improvement for sure and I want him just not at 6.5mm. Especially since we'd have to buyout Girardi or Staal to get it done so we'll have like 10mm cap space allocated towards Shatty and the buyout. - rangerdanger94
Look at my mock up, we don't have to buy out both |

I think the team is pretty much going to look the same next year except 1 major forward being traded and an addition on defence |

I agree with you on those 2 options, provided that Shatty's price is at least 20% less, and 2 or 3 years less in years term, than the rumored $6M to $7M for 6 or 7 seasons that has been out there. |

If its Fast or Lindberg, it will suck, but I think they will fill that role with someone from the Pack. Gropp, Nieves, Hrvik, etc. |

I bet Nieves gets a long look again, he is good on faceoffs and may be ideal 4th liner eventually, lord knows they couldn't win a damn faceoff in those last couple of games |

Yup. He plays pretty physical to from what I remember. If Lindberg goes to Vegas I could definitely see him starting with the Rangers next year. |
