I don't see Williams signing a deal that cheap and I don't see Minn giving us Coyle for Stepan. If the roles were reversed would you make that trade? - mrn22
He's making $3 mil right now, he's not getting a raise that's for sure but maybe it's a 3 year deal, either way we can fit him and as Step like I said Ziba for Brass happened |

For the cap hit I'll take it, I think Step going home is comparable to Brass going home, did anyone think we were getting Ziba and a pick for Brass? - KreiderBomb
Zibs is now an RFA. We shall see how that goes... |

You know I forgot about Smith, could take some extra maneuvering, we haven't signed a big name free agent since 2009, it's been a hoe grown team for the most part but we need an elite puck moving defenseman, he's worth the risk IMO - KreiderBomb
Trade their wives, kids and anything else you can think of for Drew Doughty. You got your puck mover, you got your RH shot and you got your leadership....and resign him for 7 yrs when they have to |

I live where there's hundreds of ducks year around and have yet to see a duck sitting on a wire .. - way out west
That was my point.... birds can grip a wire, this poor dude was in mid flight (since ducks have webbed feet he couldn't have been on a wire like other birds) and got struck by lightning.
Thats some accuracy with that bolt of lightning. |

You don't see Skjei being Shatty-material in the very near future? He won't be an Eric Karlson, but the kid's going to be just as every bit as good as Shattenkirk...IMO. - mames11
Skjei will be better. Bank on it.

I'm thinking somewhere around 5 years $22-25 mil, somewhere in the area of Kreider and Zucc, anything under $5 would be of value |

I don't see that as a possibility, sorry TJ, we need to maintain depth since we have no superstar, hopefully Buch gets close to that level |

I think you misunderstood. Vin had two thoughts and made them into 1 paragraph.
1st: long time Ranger fans should see 2 cups in a row because this team is a dream crusher.
2: Devils & Isles fans trolling him on FB, twitter, etc. - mdw7413

someone mentioned Arizona for Staal, Arizona for Stepan isn't a bad thought either.
They have loads of young guys and Step's a leader - jimbro83
...and really the only one with Captain type leadership qualities currently on the Rangers. But if the right deal is out there given his salary & cap hit, the time could be right to move him also due to that NTC beginning in July.
Vegas could be another possible trading partner with Stepan for leadership, depending on how much salary they would want us to retain, unless they are willing to absorb close to, or even his full $6.5M to help them reach the minimum salary cap requirements. A trade of him out of the Eastern Conference to Vegas can be expanded to also include an agreement so that Vegas does not select Fast, Grabner, Raanta, or even Lindberg if we are unable to protect any to all of those other 4 players in the Expansion Draft. Or, a non Stepan trade with Vegas of some kind is likely possible anyway to assure that they don't draft any one of those four. |

Well if it's a 2 year deal it will somewhere in the middle of what he's making now and what Kreider got, I'd say $3.5? That extra $1.5 may allow us to fit in Smith |

I thought this at the time and think this again. Henrik chose money over a cup once he signed that contract. you cant have a goalie make that much and win a cup. We have too many over paid players and too little players that out play their contracts. on top of that having a coach that is clearly out coached at times is no recipe to succeed.
Only bright spot to me is that we do have a few young gems in Skjei and Zib.
Players i would like to see go due to being over paid:
Staal
Stepan
klein
to a lesser extent Henrik
Nash will probably get moved next year as well. - richardson30
Prior to this injury riddled season for him, Klein's salary was very fair for the past few seasons. It only looks bad now, due to his ongoing back issues which never fully healed enough to allow him to perform up to his game style and level of the previous seasons. The severity of his condition may never again allow him to reach his former level of play as a top 4 defensemen, or even just part of a third pairing. |

Some Avalanche DREAMER on EK's Rangers blog proposed a trade of Duchene for McDonagh and Skjei.
I countered with my DREAM proposal of Duchene for Staal & Holden!!! |

I would keep Klein if we could get rid of both Girardi and Staal but it won't be both |

Don't think we're in terrible shape just need some re-tooling.
Start with Stepan and look for a similar Zib/Brass trade. Galchenyuk is a good idea.
Staal is worse than G and there's no way u can buyout both. We need a top RHD to go with McD but Shattenkirk is not the answer. We're relatively young outside of Hank and have Shestyorkin waiting in a couple years. I wouldn't give up on Miller or Hayes yet although they have been pretty terrible in the postseason. - nyrangers9479
We know that Shattenkirk is not the OVERALL best option to acquire as a RH d'man to advance the puck and also man the power play, due to his defensive game deficiencies at times. But who IS OR WILL BE AVAILABLE out there that is a better option than him?
Gorton will be in the hunt for Shattenkirk. But, we will have to see if Shatty wants the extra money at a likely 20% lower price offer & a shorter term, more so than the opportunity to play for his favorite local team while growing up in New Rochelle, NY not far from MSG and their practice facility.
The Rangers have to take the very good with some of the not very good if they sign Shatty. There are not any idols of his in a Brian Leetch stature d'man (but in a RH form instead) that will be available that we all know of here, to solve their offensive game shortages & issues #1 and #1A mentioned above. How did Zubov work out when he played here? |
|
|
|
Shattenkirk is a disaster waiting to happen. His age, length of contract, cap hit and defensive deficiencies will quickly get annoying to talk about. |
