they probably won't be a cup contender again with the current core, but they could be a playoff team.
making the playoffs brings in the extra revenue, so a lot of times it's worth to just to make a round or 2. - Tumbleweed
Management has to get creative with their bad contracts like Gaborik and Brown but the core could still contend for a cup if they make the right moves.

This seems a bit premature considering that he has one lackluster season production wise.

Winning the cup is hard, but really hard to do when you have bad value contracts dragging you down instead of good value contracts propping you up.
I don’t see how they move brown/gaborik without a lot of pain.

I wonder if the Blues would entertain trading Bouwmeester. |

Ditto, but really pissed off that barfbag Dotchin gets three games. Too bad Marchand didn't hit him a little more forcefully in the goulies.

Would rather have Manson - cheaper, younger, meaner, more upside for me. If the Leafs want a bigger softer d-man Tyler Myers might be had, Trouba would be great. Problem is dealing with the wienerhead in Winnipeg.

I wonder what it would cost to trade for kovalchuk. I would take him on a 2-3 year contract. |

i don't think anything high-end. 2-3 ok pieces like a middle roster player and pick.
maybe bozak and a 2nd. not sure how that helps NJ. |

I'd still trade two cups for the problems the Kings face with the cap right now. |

I agree. I don't think he commands a high price tag. If we could get him for cheap and trade JVR for a solid piece I'd do it. He could slot in nicely on a 2nd/3rd line and PP. |
