I don't know, Brown's cap hit is 5.875, but his actual salary will be 5.5M. So cap hit is higher than what he will be paid - PatC80
yotes have been taking on insurance paid deals like savard, bolland, pronger or zero money deals - datsyuk. brown's deal is too expensive.
we will be nailed with a ~$5M bonus penalty this year. moving lupul's insurance paid deal to the yotes with a 2nd could prevent that from happening next year.

(frank) this Doughty is old idiocy.
He is the perfect age, which is why LA will never trade him. - AdamFrench
Top three Reasons
1) Kopitar $10 Million 7 more years ( scored 12 goals, is 29 years old)
2) Brown $5.875 Million 5 more years (scored 14 goals is 32 years old)
3)Gaborik $4.875 Million 4 more years (scored 10 goals is 35 years old)
In addition, despite winning a couple of cups Lombardi was fired for above contracts, they are paying $1.5 for 3 more yrs for buying out Richards. Quick is 31, Carter is 32, team is old, can't score and in need of overhaul not a patch job. With Kopitar contract, will be a long overhaul. Doughty will be traded, probably not to Leafs - someone that can take on salary and make them younger fast. Doughty is their only really valuable chip and waiting a year closer to FA will not help his value.

To think that Kopitar's season wasn't an aberration is foolish. That guy will bounce back for sure.

Last year Kopidor was a shoe in to win the Selke and this year he shoots at 8% and still comes in second in his teams scoring, so he's the problem? Come on. This is like the Blackhawks fans who blame Toews for all of their "problems."

more likely Kings will make it to last 4 in West next year.
they have a very good team still.
Doughty won't be traded.
LA were saved by NHL though with decision on Richards' contract (could have been way worse) and in particular with Voynov contract non-cap hit.

How many Forwards are in the NHL right now that are younger, have more upside are better and make less money? 20? I think more.

Last year, there were about 5 players that LA would contemplate trading Kopitar for, this year, he now has the worst contract of all time and should be sold like the garbage he is before he's sent to the glue factory?

I agree with you that he will be much better, but, how many long term contracts for big dollars for very good (but not exceptional) players work out in sports? Think about it. More GM's trip over their Richards on overpaying than not. While Kopitar should not be written off, he is making superstar money but it is unlikely that he will ever produce like a superstar moving forward.

they probably won't be a cup contender again with the current core, but they could be a playoff team.
making the playoffs brings in the extra revenue, so a lot of times it's worth to just to make a round or 2.

This seems a bit premature considering that he has one lackluster season production wise.
