Ex leafs loving the fact that they got traded out of Toronto.
Facking rangers!

So I guess everyone on the Jays team has to get injured this season.

Andreas Johnson looks like he'll be a player. Grundstrom has looked alright too?

Who was it that really hated Johnson?

Jays are embarrassing. But thankfully it's still early.

- walshyleafsfan

Injuries.

Its like as if the leafs had Matthews, Nylander, Rielly, JVR and andersen injured in the first month or so. Wouldnt look good.

And its May, I know its had to understand....but yes its still early.

However, the hole they dug is deep.

Bob McKenzie said yesterday on TSN radio that Kovalchuk will not be coming back to NJ. It will definitely be a sign and trade. He thinks a 2018 first rounder will be the price. He also thinks Kovalchuk will get a 3 or 4 year deal around 6 million per.

What happened to guys like Michalek and Laich? Did they get sent to AHL version of Robidas Island?
- Matthews_Auston

Michalek, Laich and Greening were all burried in the minors, for Laich that means that out of his $3.55 Million salary, $1 Million exemption for being in AHL and the other $2.55 counted against the cap, for Michalek of the $3.05 Million, $2.05 counted against the cap and Greening of the $1.7 Million, $0.7 million counted. Thankfully they are all free to a good home now, no more financial punishment to the Leafs.

Could NJ just say screw him and not sign him, so he can't return this year? Obviously this probably wouldn't happen b/c if they can trade his rights for a first or second why wouldn't they recoup the assets.

Why aren't Laich and Michalek playing with Marlies?

Yes and no. Another team could sign him without involving NJ but then each of the other teams in the league would have to approve that signing and there's no way that would happen.

At 34 years of age and probably having slurped down a few thousand cases of vodka and putting up residence in the top peeler establishments in Moscow - not sure many would want this guy. Not sure but, I doubt he was training with Gary Roberts.

Big scoring wingers are always hard to find though, especially with his talent.

Look at Radulov: he seemed to do ok and Kovalchuk was always the better player.

I hope to God that he's not the signing that Babs was talking about on TSN.

Leafs want players for the most part that are part of the plan. Assigning higher salaries to the minors is a way to recoup a million per player. Robidas island is a full salary cap recovery by reason of injury. In the case of Robidas and Lupul, mutually agreed injury. I heard the league may close the Robidas island loophole and offer a single buyout per team every 3-4 years.

Think they're trying to go with the younguns for development.

That's why Grundstrom is playing

I agree, he was super talented, Radulov is 30, Kovalchuk is 34 - big difference. His best days are gone. Someone will sign him, problem is, he will want to get paid for what he used to do. Doubt the Leafs would have any interest. Five years of KHL with its loosy-goosy rules and work ethic will not enhance his output. He might be a good 1-2 year deal for a contending team that is short of scoring, for me I would pass.

Ottawa getting to the conference finals really points out the flaws with the NHL playoff seeding/brackets. Its awful that the Caps/Pens are playing each other in round two.

Ottawa has clearly benefited from a weaker bracket for no reason.

They should adopt 1-8 based on points with the all of the division winners getting a playoff spot.

Because their future has nothing to do with the Leafs or Marlies. They've been reduced to a memory and would be a waste of a roster spot and precious development minutes.

Every other team includes NJ - so if they wanted to screw him in the way originally mentioned there's no way he plays. NJ holds all the cards.

While I tend to agree, although I think alot of people thought Jagr was done when he was coming back. Clearly Jagr was on another tier as far as players go, but you never know. I wouldnt pay 7 million for him as reportedly is the asking price. Leafs simply dont need him.

I think you have a point, there are teams he could help. A contender that has cap space. So a team already loaded but has cap space. Maybe CBJ or Nashville would be a fit.

I agree, pretty small return expected for a guy that (frank)ed them as bad as he did. A very late first rounder from say the Preds for a guy that sucked alot of money and draft picks out of NJ.
