It sounds like this was Stan's first offer to Panik. Ya....this one is a bit of a head scratcher.

It's because Stan can't negotiate his way out of a cardboard box, he literally doesn't know the meaning of the word "hardball".

As if suddenly Stan starts being sneaky? Panik's agent should have asked about that and received a guarantee but I have a hard time believing Stan would take that route with a player who might have been the best trade he's ever made. I suppose it is possible, I just have doubts. It seems more likely that this is a continuation of Stan's trend of over paying to keep players, especially his pet projects. (See Rundblad, David.)
