Sharp played with a much bigger edge than Panarin ever did or will. He was tough to play against

Panarin played hard....for his bonus.

All that said, I would rule nothing out completely beyond Toews and Keith being around.

But in all likelihood, I think the trade chips might be:

72, 15, 16, 57, Hartman, Schmaltz, deBrincat, Kempny's rights, Panik's rights, Motte, Hinostroza, Fortin, Hayden, picks.

- John Jaeckel

100% agreed
Just hope we get speed back and some cap room ( and LW and D with speed) and no more NMC for a while
Thank you JJ !!

Panarin doesn't mesh with Toews. He plays much more a perimeter and east/west game.

Toews needs a north/south player that can play the boards/corners with speed

Move Panarin to NYI for Hamonic - frees up 2.6m
- PatShart

Mr Shart, I know you have a real hate on for the "mouthbreather" as you have often referred to him. If you haven't followed the Islanders at all this year, you can go check out some of the past blogs -- the following isn't my assessment, but rather that of Noel Fogelman (one of the 2 blog authors for NYI):

Nick Leddy's season can be broken down into two parts, playing with and without Travis Hamonic. The duo started the season as the Islanders top defensive pairing. It made total sense. Leddy, the offensive threat, while Hamonic is the shut down defensman. The results, however, were disastrous. Hamonic's poor play clearly affected Leddy's.

Since this is a report card I'll make the comparison of having a trouble maker student being a bad influence on the good student. Once the teacher moved the trouble maker's desk away from the good student, the good student really showed what they can do. That's what happened with Nick Leddy.

Leddy's numbers were clearly better without Hamonic. In the 33 games that Hamonic was out, Leddy scored six goals, 25 points and a +13 rating. Leddy is the only offensive threat on the blue line. Before josh Ho-Sang arrived on the scene, Leddy was the only Islander who can go end to end.

Since being acquired from Chicago three seasons ago, Leddy ranks 23rd in NHL defensemen scoring with 123 points.

**************************
I wouldn't be so quick to take back Hamonic.
He's a guy reminiscent of the late Steve Montador.
Better served as a stay-at-home guy, Hamonic is a guy who THINKS he's that offensive threat and ends up being simply offensive.
And a threat to his team trying to keep the puck out of the net.

BTW, I bolded that last line for you and others who thought Nick was a piece of garbage. Making over $1M less than Seabrook and is only 26.
One of the GM/Coach's most glaring mistakes IMO.

I can see Stan looking to trade with Tampa and letting Hammer go for Drouin, or a combination of players for Drouin or Palat and Coburn. Hammer and Hedman would look good together if they play an off side.

Anisimov and Forsling for Kovy and sign Ilya for 2 years x $3mil. Sign Panik 2yrs x $2mil (tel him he can produce 2 more 20 goal years while going for a Cup and cash in as a UFA after that). Sign Kempny 2 yrs x $1mil (same logic), sign Budaj $2years x 1mil, expose Kruger to Vegas (pray McPhee bites), sign $1mil depth Dman with snarl,, Give either Oduya and/or Campbell a 1 year dirt cheap contract

Kovy-Toews-Kane
Panarin-Schmaltz-Hossa
Hartman-Kero- Panik
Tootoo, Moose, Fortin, Motte, Debribcat and whoever fills out the bottom line

Keith-Hammer
Kempny-Seabs
Oduya/Campbell/Gustafson/tough depth guy

Crawford
Budaj

Not very strong down the middle, and while I like your thinking, I believe you are over the Cap.

Hammer may be a hot commodity trade wise. Easier contract to move too. Do I want to see him go? No, but if it brought back Drouin? Maybe. Drouin has skill and some edge to his game. Might blend well with 19. If it brought back Palat? Done!!!

Fading forward for a star defenseman...plus we save $500,000 in cap space. Do it Stan!

Replacing expensive vets with expensive vets doesnt help.

The hawks are top heavy in expensive core players.
Right now, as constructed, they have $6m+ core players and <$1m fill-ins.
They need to free up some cap space to turn some of those $800k fill-ins into $2m vets w (some) real skill. a strong faceoff guy, good PKer, grit. Trading Panarin or Craw or whomever out of the core, and replacing that person with another $5m+ player aint gonna get it done.

That's why I say trading Anisimov is a bad idea. The day we trade Anisimov, our biggest need will immediately become a 2C, and that 2C will cost...the same $4.5m AA is making.

Simple math.

Hawks core:
$10.5m Toews
10.5m Kane
$5.5m Hoss
$6m Bread
$4.5m AA
$6m Dunc
$7m Seab
$4m Hammer
$6m Craw
$60m Core in 9 players.

That leaves about $14-15m for 14 players.

They need to simply trade one of their $6m salaries and spread that money across several positions.

Then they'd be:
8 player core at $54m
4 players @ $2.5m each
11 players at $1m

.I still don't believe that much will happen this summer ,a couple more kids inserted . HAWKS did not have the time to wait well young players matured in the A ,so they are on a tough learning curve .They faired OK during the season ,and should improve as the season progress No sense being in Panic mode ,Preds are proving they are no push over ..

I am hearing the same thing. The rights to pending UFA goalie Ben Bishop to Dallas for a fourth round draft pick. Should be announced soon.

No...this actually makes Stan look much worse. Dallas makes a move to make their goaltending stronger while Stan makes a move to weaken Hawks goaltending.

You're looking at this backwards Kings got a fourth for Bishop, Bowman got a third for Darling.

I agree there are some options but if CRAW, Keith, Hammer, Seabs, kane.hossa, teows, Pan are all on the roster next year. that's 8 players taking up 55 mil. We had 3.5 Mil of overage this year so if the cap is 75. that means we have 71.5 or 16.5 Mil for 14 players. So that works out to 1.17 per player. Lets say we trade Kruger, AA, Forsling and Hartman for Duchene. We probably lose TVR to EXP and if something like the above happens we move Panik for a draft pick or a player on a ELC. my point is maybe you could add Duchene but you would lose Kruger, AA, Panik and Hartman to make the math work. Does that make us better? is he better then all those guys (yes) but he has AVG 23 goals per year the last 4 years and you gave up 3 guys that put up 19,22,22.

My point is we are so tight vs the cap that its going to be hard to take back any players salary.

Have they released last seasons finale salary spent? Wondering what extra can be used against the bonuses

The question now is does Nill buyout both Lehtonen and Niemi to sign Bishop?

Hawks don't win the third cup without the top four of Keith/Seabrook/Oduya/Hjarll. No way they were fitting Leddy's salary demands with that group. Sorry
