Interesting but what are your views on the Leafs?

I hate to say it but the leafs look good. Need to draft some more D men but they're well on their way.

If you're building a championship team from scratch, you can't afford to pay a guy for what he did on a bottom feeding sh!t team. IF we ever become a contender while Bo's here, he fills the role of an elite gritty 2-way 3rd line centre who provides leadership & scoring depth beyond the top 6 IMO. On a bad/mediocre team, he's a 2nd line centre, but the goal isn't to build a bad/mediocre team. We should be drafting someone this year who fills that 2C role... Someone we'll eventually need to pay more than Bo.
- DrChristianTroy

Hmm so you think Bo has peaked in his development? I see him getting better and with a contending team hold a 2nd line role just fine. His skating is still improving. He needs to learn to use his line mates better. His scoring will open up more with that. His D awareness will improve with experience. He's got the Hockey IQ and dedication to do it.

You are saying that Bo couldn't be a 2nd line center on a championship team?
- CanuckDon

I'll explain some other time, but yeah.

His skillset ceiling as far as I'm concerned is elite 3C which believe it or not is way better than mediocre/middling 2C. A championship team needs the former, and can't afford to have the latter.

(the bolded part of your post gives you an idea of what he's lacking and IMO not capable of developing to a championship top 6 level - he doesn't create that kind of space & opportunity for top 6 linemates - but can be productive with hard working offensively capable north/south grinders).

Basically I think he'd be detrimental to top 6 linemates and beneficial to capable 3rd liners like Virtanen.

I get the thought process. Why my opening sentence had the question to you. If Bo isn't developing more then he's exactly what you said with more expreience later on. I think he's capable of adding more to his game based on the IQ and dedication factors I mentioned. Time will tell. Next season we'll see if he adds some of it.

He'll keep developing within his skillset. A better more efficient version of what he already is. You don't suddenly develop the ability to create space & make your linemates better as an NHL vet... That's either in your skillset or it isn't.

I don't think Bo isn't even close to being a 1st line center.
He needs to improve defensively, and improve his possession.

Right now he is a decent 2nd line center. Finding 1st line centers is incredibly tough.

*on a championship roster? Disagree.

Of course he could pass for a top 6 player on a sh!tty team. & the production that comes with that TOI shouldn't trick ppl into thinking he's something he's not. Just my opinion/roster building philosophy... We won't ever be a contender if Bo's filling that role (or taking up the cap space needed to afford the guy who should be).

Bo has an elite 3c skillset. Mittelstadt has an elite 2c skillset. Start the build... We'll either find that 1c via Mittelstadt's ceiling or the 2018 draft or UFA once the Sedins are off the books.

I'm not sure where to start. You value Horvat even less than Lefty! He is already producing at a borderline first line rate and he is 22! You touch on his lack of playmaking ability...and I agree it's his biggest weakness but every player is dying to be on his line. Not Sedins. That was Vrbatas biggest beef, he wanted ice time w Horvat every winger that plays with him sees a boost in production. He made Virtanen look good for (frank)sakes. Respect your opinion but I can't disagree more

Why did Vrbata want on Bo's line & not the Sedins? Why did Bo make Virtanen look good? Compatibility. Those guys are north/south players and the Sedins play an east/west game. Even the (frank)ing coaches we hire can't grasp that... (hopefully Green's different)

True...but baertchi certainly isn't a north south player. Horvat may have saved his career. Horvats speed and tenacity forces teams to focus on him and as a result his line mates have space. He may not be a great playmaker but he certainly creates opportunities for his mates
