The fact that we can't sign Kovy until July 1 is pretty annoying as far as trading him for picks at this years draft.

If Kovy doesn't want to play here I don't know if it's even worth signing and trading unless it's something significant coming the other way. Yeah assets are assets but if the only thing we're getting from him is a 2nd or a 3rd and some unproven prospects idk if it's worth even the hassle of giving him the satisfaction to pick his destination.

I'd definitely rather he stay with the Devils not necessarily because I think he'd make them a playoff team again. Remember after Parise left it was Kovy's team and they stunk. But he'd make the team more exciting to watch which they quite frankly need.

Signing Shattenkirk would also make the team more exciting and we have the money to spend so I wouldn't be opposed to grabbing him assuming we even had a chance to sign him. Our anemic defense needs some sort of shot in the arm.

All good points but we will have to see how it actually plays out.

We don't owe Kovy anything but if ownership doesn't spend some money to improve the team it's a complete waste to sign him and have him play in NJ for the year.

My guess is IF he actually wants to return to the NHL and IF he doesn't want to be on the Devils we will sign him and get a reasonable return. 'Reasonable' is debatable but it won't be a blockbuster and Ray won't move him for garbage.

I think the only way he signs with Devils if he, Shero and the 3rd team all have a deal in place. It won't be like Kovy signs, plays then deadline deal.

That being said, there will be a ton of teams wanting him. He's 34, never seriously injured. Still plays at elite level. Devils can def get a first rounder and a prospect AT LEAST from a playoff team.

I honestly wouldn't mind Evander Kane if possible, would prob have to be some three team deal or something. No way Kovy goes to jets if he wants cup.
