558 career goals but we don't need that, how many 8th overall picks do we need ? how many more times are we going to pick in the top 10 ? we have seen what Reinhart can do and how do we know Nylander is going to become anything at all. If you going to spend why not spend on one of the best players in the game. Why keep spending money on crap players when you can make it count.......... for once.

But then again, I'm blinded by all our playoff appearances and cup banners.

I am extremely surprised that you're for this. This is a guy whose best years are behind him. He is still an excellent player in this leage but I don't think that good teams take on these kinds of players at that age with that term left.

Yeah but we aren't a good team and don't plan on being one anytime in the future.

Ovi would retire and bolt to the KHL if he was traded to Buffalo.

Eichel has proven he can carry his wingers, ristolainen has proven he cant carry his partner.

- Sabresfan-365

The rest of your post was good but this sentence couldn't be further form the truth. Neither have proven anything other than being really good players.

I think Washingotn parts with Ovie before Pittsburgh parts with Geno. I'd take either one of them but we need wingers and defense. Given Malkin's injury history, that alone would make me want Ovechkin over him.

But both would instantly upgrade this team more than a Trouba/Fowler-type, IMO.

Regardless of the picture of him ready to cut a dude with a Sabres jacket on, I don't think Ovechkin wants any part of the KHL, he's just butthurt about the Olympics next season.

We aren't far off but there is no way I'd trade for him. If we were perennial contenders and needed one more stud to get us over the top I'd consider it. This just feels like a bad move.

This is kind of unfair.

His total of 33 gals this year seems low, but he was also given 2 less minutes of ice time per game. If he had an extra 164 minutes of ice time, he probably scores 5 or so more goals and puts him closer to 40 than 30.

He'd still score 35 plus here. Which I can say is possible for exactly 1 other Sabre

But that doesn't get it done

I don't like any player that holds out while demanding a trade. ROR for example was a female dog about his contract but at least he still played, IIRC.

Which is why I want absolutely nothing to do with Trouba or Drouin.

Fire up the Pegula Plane and get Mogilny out of his dacha and back to the Queen City as a "special advisor" to land us Ovie!

I like Skunk, but he will never be able to hold Ovie's jock! Is he suddenly going to shake off the accusations of coasting and become a superstar dynamo of scoring? Nope. Ovie would be the most dynamic, most skilled player since 89 and 16.

I have a man crush on the Cookie Monster and thought the muffin man was clutch, Roy and PomPom were amazing second round picks that played better than their draft position, but come on. Great 8 with Eichel feeding him? No comparison.

Incidentally, when I met my nasty wife, it was around the time of the lockout. When hockey returned, and the Sabres didn't suck, I taught her about how buffalo always gets screwed by Bettmanand the league, and will never win the cup. Then the 1 seasons post-lockout, I told her we got some guys who for some reason,on this team,
Wee actually really good, but on any other team would be ok at best or straight up garbage! It was like bizarro jerry world, where good things actually happened In buffalo... every game was exciting and was must-see tv.

Now, I can barely stomach a period, and if the steam conks out, I'm not wasting my time playing around with the Kodi box to continue the game. I haven't subscribed to center ice in 3 years.

That trade falls down from the Chicago side - why would they want ROR's contract? The only way they would want to do something like this is if they still feared him doing dumb things in his personal life.

If he has already reached his peak (and he has) then his best years are behind him. This is NOT to say that he is not currently a top player in the league. I see him as a guy that could really fall of the ledge quickly in another year or two.
