I remember NJ were docked draft picks for circumventing the cap with his big contract.
- Matthews_Auston

Yeah, they had contact with him before the trade went down. he knew he was getting a max contract and backed Atlanta into a corner

And daaaaaaamn, I didn't realize it was a 15-year contract. WTF?

15-year, $100 million deal and he "retired" with 12 years left on it ahahahaha serves NJ right.

Too much money for too old a player. Same reason I wouldn't want to take on Weber for anything significant. The potential loss is too great.

Fair point, thanks. What do you think the Hawks should do from an outside perspective?

Here's what the Sabres look like to me from an outside view:
-defense, outside of rasmus and falk I'd try to scrap the whole heap. All but those two are liabilities that would get roasted in a playoff series. Try to target expansion screwed teams.
-eichel, great talent. Needs some serious ass kicking though. I don't know if he's ever heard the word 'no' before. When I saw him play the Blackhawks I noticed two things: his speed going up the ice and going back. He absolutely did not care about getting back. He's an elite offensive talent, but until his passion translates into two way hockey he'll never be the Getzlaf/Kopitar/Bergeron you need to win a cup.
-vets, is try to dump nearly all of them. They carried the torch faithfully during the growth years but seemed to pick sides during the bylsma eichel fiasco. Send a pick to Las Vegas so they'll take Moulson. Only resign gionta if he'll do it for a mil

Your team is a blast to follow, I hope that you're the next dynasty. Buffalo deserves better than the last ten years.

15years?? Holy crap. I didn't think it was that long. Why wouldn't they have to honor that contract if/when he comes back???

1.) Falk is nothing more than a 6/7 guy for depth. I like him but he is what he is. You also left out McCabe, who had a great 1st half of the season and a bad second half that I'm willing to blame on the coach/locker room situation or a lingering injury. He should be a solid 3/4 guy for a long time. Reminds me of a better Rhett Warrener.

2.) We don't necessarily need him to be a 2-way forward. But I've seen just as many plays where he did rush back as he didn't and I think it was more frustration that he was the only guy working his ass off most of the time. I saw him looking around at his clueless teammates a lot on those plays where he didn't rush back. He needs to realize as a center, it's his job to cover the whole rink (this is something Derek Roy never got enough credit for) and while I agree that his wingers were AWOL most of the time, he can definitely get better in this area.

3.) You're preaching to the choir. We're hoping Vegas takes one of Moulson, Bogosian or Ennis and that we can either trade or buy out at least one of the others. Gorges only has a year left and helps us hit the cap floor this season. He should be the 6th man and on the PK but Gionta is as good as gone with the GM and coach getting canned and the turmoil surrounding the team.

I don't get the praise for him as a leader or locker-room guy. He seems like a wanker and thinks he's owed the C. He had a decent year but we have no need for him moving forward.

You think you guys have another cup run? You absolutely need to dump Seabrook and Arizona might be your best bet. Try to get Duclair and assets in return but the Hossa situation is also a huge problem going forward, isn't it?

Hossa was actually the only guy outside of Kane who I didn't want to strangle the entire first round. He's still one of the best possession guys in the league that I've seen. Might not score enough for a 4-5 mil a year guy but his d and cycling are still top notch. I have no problem with him actually.

Just reading up on it, they originally offered him a 17 year contract that the league rejected.

Then they go and approve a 15-year deal a day later

This league under Bettman has been the drunk girl at the party who just broke up with her boyfriend, that's for sure. All over the place, to say the least.

And I've also been confused about him coming back and not being obligated to his contract with NJ.

It makes the DiPietro contract look sane in comparison. At least he was just the victim of unfortunate injuries. I remember NYI and DiPietro saying they wanted him to be the next Broduer, play for a team his whole career and all that jam. Just bad luck.

I was referring more to Hossa's contract and health going forward. If he retires, doesn't that kind of screw you guys over for a hot minute? He looked great this season when he was healthy. Very underrated player, if he can even be called that. Played in what, 4 consecutive finals? And something like 6 out of 8? He was doing something right

And that was the 2nd contract because the first was rejected by the league as circumvention and the Devils lost their 1st round pick because of it.

McCabe is also a very promising player on defense.

Eichel, well it's just a good thing he's as great as he is. He can be very lazy getting back, but there are times he really flies back into the play too. I think it's more of a consistency thing at this point for him. It also may have been a not so subtle shot at the coach too. I think when he gets bored he has concentration lapses, like 99.9% of us do. And he looks bored out there an awful lot.

Gionta was still talking like he's on the team and had no intentions of going anywhere else even after Bylsma and Murray were canned. I would definitely bring him back at less than or equal to $2.5M.

Not trying to be biased, seabrook still has a couple of good years left in him before he becomes a buyout/Arizona candidate. I'd love to keep him if we didn't have 5 pieces that were more important. He's scored more clutch goals than everyone but Kane on this team. He does PP/PK well, still has good advanced stats for an ancient 32 year old.
I still stand by that he'd be your second best defenseman instantly. And comparing him to bogo is a joke. 3 cups, Olympic gold, 40+ point seasons, A on the sweater. Bogo has none of that and never will.

Sorry if I ruffled some feathers. Just seeing what you'd part with for him.

- ObeseOprah

Yes, but you're talking to us about what Seabrook has done in the past, we need to know what he'll do for US in the future if we were to trade for him. And, although he may give a few good years still, at that contract what he really does for us is cripple us cap wise moving forward, and we already have Bogo, Moulson, Ennis, and Gorges doing a good job of that. Add to that the cost of what we'd need to give the Blackhawks and it would be a horrible deal for the Sabres.

And ignored the rest of the post where I said I want no part of him.

And you do know the meaning of the word 'maybe'?

Kane has 1 year left on his contract. Evander Kane for Seabrook would actually be a steal, since the actual cap hit in the long-term is small (EDIT: This is not true actually hahaha). Fact is, there's no desirable trade for either side here.

There is, one is called bleu cheese dressing, the runny stuff with no clumps, and the other is just bleu cheese.

Bleu cheese dressing is mostly just Mayo and milk, and then it has the actual bleu cheese added.
