If Foligno does come back next year and he is in the top 6, we will be in the same spot once again at this time next year.

He scored 5 goals while playing a big chunk of his time with ROR and Okposo. I don't get the love for Carrier at all. He's a very non-descript forward imo. That said, i would obviously trade foligno if the right package was available, but i don't see Carrier as an equal replacement for what Foligno brings.
- jcragcrumple

Carrier IMO is a 4th liner on a good team.

Fast, Physical, goes to the net, but no above average skill set in terms of shot or passing that I have seen

in a cap era

carrier at 1 mil per is much better than foligno

- homiedclown

Than Foligno at what, though? 4, maybe. At 3, I think you're better off with Foligno. Again, with Carrier, you're talking about a guy who played one the top line a lot and still didn't produce. I guess if you want to keep Carrier on the 4th line for a couple of years, fine, but if you polled teams around the league on which player they'd rather have, they'd pick Foligno

again, in a cap era your better off paying a player 1 mil for the 3rd line who has similar production than foligno 2.5 per

but you also need to use that cap savings to fix your top 6 up front and your top 4 on the blue line

would i rather have foligno on the 3rd line for the playoffs, yes
but first we need to build a team to get to the playoffs and holding on to players who have been with this team for 6 years and has 0 playoff games IMO is not the way to go

I'd agree that Foligno is still currently higher on the pecking order than Carrier, but I have little doubt that Bailey and Bap will soon be outproducing him as soon as this year. And, Carrier only has 41 NHL games in his career, give him a full season and he'll be better than Foligno soon as well. With what Foligno is going to want to be paid, it's probably best to see if there are other suitors out there for his services and maybe we can help out our defensive outlook as well.

I don't think that 1.5-2 mil will make or break the budget. We're not talking about paying the guy second line money. That said, I'm honestly hoping that we cast out at least three of: 82, 28, 12, 63, 22, 48 and 26 just to change the chemistry of the team, because that bottom six is broken. I would personally keep 82, 22 and 63, then bring in some bona fide PK guys to build a new fourth line, but i can see arguments for others

Hot take: If the new GM finds a way to get rid of BAD players and simultaneously brings in GOOD players, then we will be GOOD. e50.

I respectfully disagree on that point. I'm not saying that Foligno is an offensive dynamo, but Carrier has done nothing to show that he has any sort of knack for scoring. He goes really, really fast and hits, and then doesn't know what to do. I hope I'm wrong, but i just don't see Carrier ever scoring 13 goals in this league

carrier, in 2015-16 went on a tear in rochester once he got his feet wet
22 points in his last 25 games before he got hurt

kid has upside

side note, fasching went on a mini tear to end the season in rochester as well

not a dig on foligno, but we have seen him peak already and if 23 points a year is the best he can do, I sacrifice him and use that 1.5 mil to 2 mil in savings for a top 6 winger or top 4 d

now watch the new gm extends foligno for 3 years at 9 mil on his second day on the job

I don't hate that

*ducks*

I think he's a nice third liner and he plays well with Larsson. Once we jettison a couple of these bloated salaries, a 3 mil 3rd liner shouldn't be a problem. As far as Carrier and Fasching translating their AHL play to the NHL, i guess we'll see. I personally haven't seen anything that gives me great expectations.

He's gonna get a raise from $2.25m. Someone will bay him 2.75-3. I'd personally like to see a Jarnkrok-type deal. 6 years, 2 mil per. I really think he'll outproduce what he did this past year, and even if he doesn't, he was night-in, night-out one of the most consistent players. Come playoff time, this guy will be a beast
