I see this thing about speed but I don't think of him as being a speedster. He has a quick twitch but he doesn't have a top end speed like I think people seem to talk about.
- J35Bacher

I think his skating advantage is more about quickness and agility rather than top end speed.

Ghost played six less games than Provorov, but scored nine more points.
- Feanor

But how many more PP mins did Ghost get compared to Provy?

Just talking logistics....is the moose laying on its side or does Scoob have a stool/ladder/scaffolding to get himself to the correct height

The Flyers should not use their future franchise center as a bargaining chip to rid themselves of Andrew MacDonald, or anyone for that matter. This is (barring a significant injury to one or more of their best players during the season) their one and only chance to get someone like this
- YuenglingJagr

Agreed. The Flyers right now don't even need to move MacDonald that badly to give up any significant asset to do so. If need be they have the option to do what they did in the past if they need a roster spot.

That's why you don't judge a player's worth solely by points.

That's as silly as blithely assuming all four of Hagg, Morin, Sanheim and Myers will be better NHL defensemen than Ghost and make him expendable.

I agree but with Gostisbehere a big factor in judging him is point production. I hope he's going to be more than a 40 point defenseman, and that his defensive game gets to at least an acceptable level.

I like this strategy. Just get it all out of the way at once. Time saver.

He's scored at 49 points per 82 games so far, so if he stays on PP1 then 40+ points per season should be a given.

Agree with both. While I don't want to trade Ghost, but if Hagg, Morin, Sanheim, and Myers do pan out as NHL regulars, I think it's pretty damn important that this contract Ghost is due has to be sexy and controlled enough for a team to take on if trading him becomes a choice to maximize on return. But this a problem we won't face until 2-3 years, or more.

And on top of that, I don't see him as a particularly good forechecker either. Nor do I see him winning his share of battles in the corners after he does get in on the puck.

Ghosts game is about space and time. When he has it he is deadly, when he doesn't, not so much.

- MBFlyerfan

Ghost does have the ability to provide said space and time for himself with his skill and skating ability

He was the worst on the team in points/60 at 5 on 5 among defenseman, but I think usage and teammates is a factor there. I think he can be better in all areas then he was last season. I don't expect him to score at the level he did in his first season but I think he can and will be better than he was last year. I think the injury effected his main weapon which is his skating offensively. What concerns me was the break down of his defensive game and the fundamentals. These things can happen though when a young player struggles.

Hey Bill,

Just a heads up on something you may find interesting, tomorrow is the WHL Bantam draft and Don Saleski's nephew Cohner Saleski is expected to go pretty high. He's (arguably) the best Sask prospect in the draft. I've seen him play a few times and he is fast, skilled and has a heavy shot. He put up big points on a pretty weak team this year.

- Slipperypickle

Hadn't heard that. Thanks for the heads up.

Flyers still hold his rights. Actually, if he goes back to college hockey next year and plays two seasons, the Flyers could hold his rights until Aug 15, 2020.

Flyers now have almost 20 legitimate candidates for their forward roster. They need to lose, cut, waive or trade at least 6 of them. So who are they?

Here is my prediction.

Giroux
Voracek
Simmonds
Couturier
Schenn
Filppula
Konecny
Weal
Bellemare
Lindblom
Weise
Veccionne
#2 -Cut--WHL or AHL
Laughton
Raffl -expansion draft
Leier Cut-waived
Read Traded with salary retained
Lyubimov-KHL
Cousins -Cut-waived

Todd Cordell takes a hard look at Hischier in his post today. It was a decent read for those inclined.

It doesn't matter to me which falls in our lap. I'm very excited to add one of those players to our roster.
