My concern is if the Pegula's have made up their mind about him, they will not have any second interviews with other "qualified" candidates. If he truly is not available until June, they could pigeon hole themselves with the draft/expansion draft.

that certainly would be a pickle

good one...we've just witnessed a career season from him...shows that when he's really challenged, he's a paper tiger

good points, but that's what the scouting staff is for...they've already done all the legwork with meetings coming up in mid-may to compare lists...and from what I was told, there won't be a Bills-like scouting purge, at least at the amateur scouting level...there's also kevin devine still in house

THe draft isnt that big of a deal, but the entry draft is IMO. Truth be told, i dont even know who our current AGM is, but we need our new GM to make the decisions on who to protect in the entry draft. Especially in goal, we need to find a way to trade Lehner to protect Ullmark, or trade Ullmark so we don't lose him. Or trade picks with Bogo or Moulson into cast them into the desert

Edit: expansion not entry

If something like that is a legitimate concern then the same would apply to Fenton as well.

i'm really not to worried about things...all the scouting has been done for the entry draft and it's time to compare notes...

as for the expansion draft, those who must be protected are known and there's only a few decisions to be made concerning those who will be exposed...it might work out well that there's no GM as the team could make a tough decision without the gm suffering from any fallout

I see your point, but the guy we bring in should be there to make a better decision than the people we already have. If not, why hire anyone from outside the organization? The guy we hire needs to be able to "win" (to speak the parlance of our dear leader) the expansion draft, not merely survive it

I get it....had they retained murray, the "deal" he made with McPhee could have moved an unsightly contract...that said, i'm sure if he's hired by the Sabres, he should be able to have contact with McPhee in some way, shape or form

Looking at the candidates Botterill seems to stand head and shoulders above the rest. Futa and Fenton could work too I guess but I'm not sold.

The Sabres never pick the obvious candidate though it seems so for all I know they'll hire someone who wasn't even on the original shortlist.

He's a tool (Kadri that is). The only reason he gets away with his crap is because the league won't allow fighting anymore.

Imagine if him and Marchand were playing when Ray and Tomi were around.

fenton helped build the preds without a Sidney Crosby-type franchise player...that defense is awesome, thanks in part to phil housley as well, whom I wouldn't mind as head coach if they decide to go young

Gary Bettman too. I'm sure when the league owned the Sabres there were offers to buy and relocate
- jcragcrumple

The Coyotes who have had ownership issues since they moved to Phoenix are still in Arizona, with almost no fan support.

The Sabres were not moving. Bettman already stopped it once when Rigas pulled an Enron. Or did Enron pull a Rigas? Whichever.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Arizona and possibly Florida or Carolina move now that the NFL has relocated 3 teams in 2 years. The time is probably right

I'd enjoy watching Barnaby play cat and mouse with either of those tools throughout a game and dirt-stomping them, as well . . . he was "dirtier", quicker, and more agile than either Ray or Domi.

Depending on how Carolina shakes out maybe them. But I don't see Florida or Arizona moving any time soon. Bettman has spent so much on Arizona that he doesn't want to see them fail. At some point though...

Sure, nobody goes to games in Florida, but nobody goes to Islanders games either. It's more about ownership than attendance.
