Points are important for any player in the league when it comes to contract negotiations.

The 32 points MDZ scored in 64 games in 14-15 got him two years at $3.875m AAV from Hextall.

He also played pretty well that year. I think he was playing almost 22 minutes a night.

I can't say I honestly have a grip on D salaries right now.

Neither can a significant number of GMs (and ex-GMs).

They aren't but someone is going to have to as there's only Provorov, Gudas, Gostisbehere, Manning and MacDonald and Hextall has said he won't be looking at a UFA Dman.

As an aside, we still need a #1 goalie. I just mention it in passing.

I don't like any available UFAs other than Mason

Having said that, I wonder if there are any goalies in Russia or playing in Europe who could be potential signings?

If they sign him to three yrs that eats up his RFA yrs, I know. But it gives the team two yrs to see what he's actually going to be then they can sign him to his UFA deal a yr before he becomes a UFA.

Just my thoughts. It's what I'd push for if I was GM. 12mil is a lot for the kid to turn down.

A 3 year deal would only make sense if they didn't mind him walking as a UFA at age 27. So it doesn't make any sense. Ghost is a lot more valuable than MDZ.

I wonder if Darling is going to sign in Carolina. I would they might have had some idea before making that deal.

I still wouldn't mind Anders Nilsson or maybe even Fleury if he is bought out.

In 14-15 he was regularly healthy scratched by Berube. At least 10 times, IIRC. But he still got his money after the Flyers and him avoided arbitration at the last minute.

It's sucks that Bobrovsky might win his second Vezina this year. Flyers should draft someone like that and not trade him for a veteran head case that everyone warned them about. I wonder what the space cadet is doing these days besides spending his Flyers money.

If Fleury is bought out, sure, sign him to a reasonable deal if possible.

Do you know what the Rags goalie pipeline looks like? I'd love to pry Raanta away from them.

One guy I thought was worth a closer look was Darling. CAR still has to sign him but it's seems they sure do want him. Bishop, Miller, Bernier? We only need one. No on Elliott. Other names could pop up . . . Budaj, Chad Johnson.

So who will the Flyers draft next year....Mattias Samuelsson or Brady Tkachuk?

Time to think ahead

I know too soon, but currently I don't like next year's crop yet.

So what this says to me is that teams with top notch Canadian defensemen play longer in the playoffs......

None of those guys does it for me, especially Elliott as you mention.

I really just don't understand why they would elect to move on from Mason when those are the available names. All it does is open up question marks about the position when none need be asked. Did the tandem play to potential? No. But, you have a goalie who is, what, top 5 all time in wins who can clearly win games in the playoffs and you kick him to the curb. They can't help themselves when it comes to goaltenders.

I keep thinking the goalie thing all has been thrown into chaos by the expansion draft planning and wanting to protect Stolie.

I would love to know why the parties decided to part ways. If I had to choose Hak v. Mason, I certainly know which way I would go.

I don't know. There are certainly some qualified coaches out there...

One thing, as a side note, that I recently saw was a Finnish guy suggest that Sami Kapanen could be in line to become a head coach in the NHL. He is an assistant coach (as well as GM) of KalPa. Kimmo is also a minority owner. Would love for them to ply their trade with the Flyers (assuming they have more success than Lappy).
