I don't know how the Flyers have the players rated. But if Vilardi is their guy, they probably could trade down a spot or two because I think most teams have Patrick and Hischier as their 1 and 2, with the order varying. - bmeltzer
While I really like Vilardi, and would have been thrilled with him if we were picking third, Hischier and Patrick are still the top 2 on my list and I would take either before Vilardi.

I think Vegas would be the one to target here. I would offer 2nd overall plus 2018 first overall and MacDonald for the 4th overall and their 2018 first overall. The only way I make this risky trade is if I know Dallas is picking Heiskanen at 3. - youarewrong
Vegas is picking 6th.

I don't have any interest in this. Sure, our pick at best next year should be in the teens but I don't like willingly moving out of the top 3. And I don't think Vegas will be willing to gamble(excuse the pun) next year's pick away like that.
And AMac is only under contract for three more years. It's not a great contract by any means but the term is manageable now. They can probably move him in a deal after this season if need be. - hereticpride
Exactly, they can move him after this year, or, if needed, even carry him as the 6/7 guy in 18-19. It's going into 19-20 that they will likely need some cap space. At that point, they can either trade him with some cash retained or just buy out the last year.

Agree. Also what if we win the lottery again? Haha. But seriously Vegas may not be that terrible this year and macdonald really isn't obstructing us from doing anything. We have plenty of options to shed salary if need be |

Unless they are making a run at signing Bishop to a short term, big bucks deal, I can't see any reason why they'd need to shed salary this year, or even next.
They seem to be in good shape heading into 17-18, and after that season, Umberger's buyout, Read and Filpulla (a total of 10.125 million) all come off the books.

Yup. And we could chose not to sign cousins weal etc. Probably find takers for raffl read filp if we really needed to. But I really don't see that happening. Especially since we're already shedding a ton of cap and looking to backfill with guys on elc. |

Bill (or anyone else speak Swedish?) could you give us a synopsis?
http://www.expressen.se/s...gn--forsokte-dolja-nagot/ - bodiva88
The lie about the mythical flag
The book describes Pelle Lindberghs successful hockey career. Here are details on the flag that Lindbergh received by the American hockey goalie and friend Jim Craig for the Olympic Games in Lake Placid in 1980.
In what came to be known as the "Miracle on Ice" Craig went around with an American flag after the victory against the contemporary Soviet Union. The flag that was captured on several photographs became classical, and later mythical.
"Then I felt that he had nothing to hide."
Today, there is disagreement over who owns it.
Kerstin Somnell claims she has the flag at home in the safe in Täby. At the same time Jim Craig have been trying to sell a similar flag for five million US dollars.
- It's a strange story, there is something wrong, says Kerstin and continues:
- Pelle told me that this flag you need to be afraid of because it has given to me by Jim Craig, and it can be valuable one day. It was the flag he raced on when the United States won the Olympic Games in Lake Placid. And it is signed by him.
Jim Craig, confirmed in an interview with the Los Angeles Times in 1992, he gave the flag to the Pelle Lindbergh after the Olympics in Lake Placid. But Craig said that he then got back flag after his friend's death. A woman from Sweden will then have sent it to him. But Kerstin Somnell has not sent any flag of the Atlantic.
- It was an outright lie because he was referring to, I would have sent it back. Then I felt that he had something to hide. It was something he was trying to hide.
2015 was flown Kerstin Somnell to the US to participate in an American version of the television program "Antiques detectives". In the baggage she had the flag, signed with the words: "Best wishes and good luck always. Jim Craig. "
The Smithsonian Channel examined flags and found that both were from Lake Placid, but Jim Craigs fringed flag present on most photographs from the golden celebrations. Which meant that the television channel stated that Craig's copy was the most well known.
- No one knew at the beginning that the flag would be so attractive. What you consider to be the right thing is difficult, but I buy what they have come up with, says Kerstin Somnell.

I do.
I also see the Rangers taking their series. Last night felt like the beginning of the end for Ottawa. |

Agreed on the salary cap. Worst case, they could expose Read to waivers and assign him to the Phantoms, no need to buy him out. AMac has 3 years left, when they're ready to move him when the prospects are ready, retain somewhere around 50 % salary and I'm pretty sure they could get a decent draft pick for him (3rd rounder).
Depending how training camps unfolds, I'm not convinced Filppula will be on the opening night roster. They won't give him away, but they already got a 4th rounder for Streit. If the young prospects earn top 9 roles, would it be unreasonable to assume Filppula being moved for another asset? It is going to be a fascinating training camp.

Yeah, it wasn't fun to watch. I think the entire series comes down to game 4. If Ottawa can find some way to bounce back and win that game, they will take this series. If the Rags tie it up at 2, I doubt the Sens win another game. |

I'd be surprised if Filpulla is moved before next seasons deadline. A kid could look great in camp and then start to fade as the season progresses. I think it's more likely that either Raffl or Read ends up in Vegas, and, if roster space is needed to accommodate youth, the other will be traded. Filpulla is the best player of the three and with only one year left on his deal, the cap hit is pretty much meaningless.

Vilardi at 3..Yeah. but in the top 2 I need to take either Patrick or Hischier. and I think it will end up being Patrick.
Just curious what others think but would it be terrible for the Vegas team to pick MacDonald. I know how people feel about him but he could play solid minutes for them, ply some PK. With 3 years left it does allow for them to also let some young defenders develop that they will be drafting.

With the Flyers possibly getting Patrick or Hischier, do you think Filpulla moves to wing? I think if it ends up being Hischier, Filpulla stays at center the year but if Patrick, He'll move out to wing. |
