If mcdavid was off the table I wouldn't trade eichel 1 for 1 for anyone.

Matthews would be the only consideration in my mind, maybe laine too. I think eichel is better than both of them, add that to what was endured to secure him and it just isn't interesting to me.

i ruled laine out just because of him being a winger and he got the one head knocker already,.. those things can come right back and ruin a career.. i know the same could happen to eichel but laine already had one.

I guess the premise was you HAD to do it.

On the same note, I think the NHL should make each team trade their 1st round pick every year. Could be for a player or another 1st round pick and you just need to trade it before the draft, so wait as long as you want, as the value changes over time, clearly.

So you could sell at the start of the year (thinking that team will be bad) or wait until your team wins the lottery and be forced to trade #1 overall. Would be extra fun for fans, always having another team they are rooting against and stops your team from "tanking".

Ya laine is out for me based on his position mostly. I don't worry too much about his injury, he came back fine and great players are great regardless of concussions. Could happen to anyone like you said

Interesting topic on Toronto sports talk radio today .... for a change. They were asking callers who would you trade Matthews for if you had to trade him one for one for someone. They took away McDavid for obvious reasons. The callers were pretty evenly split between Eichel, Laine and Karlsson. The odd doorknob picked an older guy like Ovechkin or Weber.

Who would you guys trade one for one for Eichel if you had to?

$4.5m is still cheaper than what we paid Myers years ago ($5.5?), but what scares me is the internal drive to be better. If it was a 2 year deal, player must play really well to get that next contract value as high as possible, this just says he can do the minimum and still get paid for 7 years.

I save the 7-8 year deals for stud players (Crosby, Ovechkin, McDavid, Eichel, Matthews, ect.)

Tanking is only relevant when there is a great player at the top of the draft apparently.. no peeps about it this year. I think the draft lottery is a (frank)ing joke.

I'm probably the only person who wanted Eichel over McDavid, as crazy as that sounds. I wanted the American kid in the American market. MURRICA.

But it was mostly based on me not getting my hopes up for the #1 pick... And I do think that if any lottery was rigged, it was that one because the NHL wanted the Canadian kid in the Canadian market and the American kid in the American market.

Obviously if we were picking #1 it was McJesus but I'm happy with Eichel and wouldn't trade him for anything in all honesty.

2. Canvass the league, dangling any of Reinhart, Nylander, 8th pick, or lesser prospect for top 2 LHD stud.
3. Ink Eichel to long term deal.
4. Find a way to send Moulson or Ennis to Vegas or buyout.
