Nice goal by McJesus but did you see Janet Gretzky jump for joy after McJesus scored?

No Clue...its no different than with the Avs and Beauchemin NMC. Want to assume they will waive it to avoid being bought out. But have no clue.

Why would they care if they're bought out? It just means more money for them.

It was a great move he put on Vatanen. But Gibson has to have that.

bc chances are they won't get back into the NHL, especially a guy like Beauchemin. There is a real chance he is bought out and that might be the way he ends his NHL career.

You think so? I think someone gives him a shot.

Hell, they were talking about Tanguay this past offseason still...

my apologies if this was already stated, but is not that Heiskanen (Fin) guy one of if not the top ranked defensemen in this draft?

Glad McDavid had that dreaded sophomore slump all of the Leaf players are definitely going to have

I think so. He was awful. Look at guys like Carle who was 32 and awful. Bought out, signs a cheap league min, waived, then is forced to retire.

Guys like Beauchemin could see the same sort of fate if he is forced to be bought out. Not really the best way to end your career. Better to save some dignity and just do a Robidas island situation and play along.

Chiarelli is the luckiest GM in sports. Only he could pull off some of the worst trades in league history and still find a way to win 2 cups with two different teams. amazing

How many years does he have left on his deal? I thought it was only 2?

Edit: He's only got 1. They'll take the hit for 1 year instead of 2.

Double edit: I don't think they actually save anything buying him out. He's over 35.

Beauch only has 1 year. Yup just absorb the full Cap hit for that year and move on to open up a roster spot and help their protection issues.

But if he waives his NMC, he might save himself from being bought out and can finish out his career.

They did that with Stuart, bought him out as an 35 year old just to get them off the D Core. Did it once, will do it again if needed

They don't even have 4 forwards that they absolutely must protect anyway, so if they have to they can go 4 and 4. Do they roll the dice and protect Pickard? Varly has not been a $6M goalie the past few years, or ever really except that one year.

I think they'd be thrilled to have Colborne, Comeau or Soderberg off the books.

I played with Justin Bailey in a charity hockey game at HarborCenter today. Obviously, he is really skilled, but I never realized how big of a guy he really was.

I think he's taller. I'm 6'3", and he was at least a couple inches taller than I am.

It's entirely possible he's grown. I thought they had him listed at 6'4" at the beginning of the year.

Hockeyreference has him at 6'3", but take that with a grain of salt.

Its already reported that they are protecting Varly. Which is the right move in my mind. Hes still the most talented goalie they have, finally getting surgery to fix a 2 year old issue of his. Hes a fragile guy mentally so if they didn't protect him and still had to start for them...he would be rattled to the cage. The fact that Roy didn't talk to him when he left and still hasn't apparently has really bothered him..

They really like Barberio and want to keep him if they can. Andrighetto and Grigs would be guys they would to protect. But I don't know what the unsigned RFA thing means. If they can be selected without being signed or have to contact the RFA and get them signed to count as the selection.

If they get Beauch to waive...my guess its 8 skaters (Landy, Mack, Dutch for now, Andrighetto - EJ, Barrie, Zads, Barberio) Exposing Grigs and Pickard
