If you were more knowledgeable on the topic, you would realize that medical autopsies show it is much more common than we ever thought. Read up on it. They can not diagnose it until people have died by examining their brain tissue. But recently they have found it is way more common than previously thought.

A 40 year old with a history of concussion problems is a risky hire for a decision making job. That's all I am saying.

A guy who retired at 28 then went back to school to get his MBA and has been second in charge for the defending Stanley Cup Champions and you're going to cite Wikipedia (of all places) about CTE, give an 8-10 year range when it starts showing symptoms and not do a quick google check to see when Botterill retired to see that it was from a hit taken on Halloween night 2004 so you know over 12 and a half years ago.

So again I say Jesus Christ.

Wouldn't you do the same in his shoes?

If the Sabres were good, and he fired Murray under the guise of wanting his own people, I'd be dumbfounded. But he's doing it based on performance. Same with Whaley.

Sean McDermott has obviously made an impact on TP, and what he wants in his coaches/management, and I can't blame him. The guy is going to be a good coach IMO, and is incredibly smart.

I'll be honest, as someone who has witnessed years of Bills turmoil, I think they got it right with McDermott. Time will tell though

- sbroads24

My question was how was he better qualified? Not whether or not I would want to do the same. Most general managers are given the liberty of hiring their own coaches.

In all honesty, it's as simple as Pegula wanting his own hires and not the hires of Lafontaine/Nix/Wilson etc.
- sbroads24

This was a cop out on Pegula's part. He re-signed both Murray and Whaley. At that point they were his hires.

do you understand what "generally" means? When they say generally start 8-10 years later, it means there is leeway. And again, it is progressive, it starts off small and gets worse.

Isn't it amazing that the Rangers are so clueless as to employ a formerly concussed Chris Drury in their front office?? Any day now he could lose his marbles and start trading away talent like a wild cowboy. That Chris Neil hit was only 10 years ago.

In fact, let's start a movement to boycott anyone who's had a head injury from front office positions!!

Well, no he chose to keep them, not hire them in the first place.

I thought the extensions were bizarre, but it's his money, and if he wants to pay them, so be it.

He's probably just tired of his teams being dumpster fires on the field/ice.

Does anyone know what Botteril's triglyceride levels are? Let's make sure our GM is heart healthy before we commit to a long term contract.

Botterill is literally the only publicized candidate that I don't want. His concussion history means a chance for CTE. He is younger so the signs and symptoms may just be emerging and the condition, if he does have it, could get worse in the coming years. Not saying he has it, but there is a chance he does, which imo makes it a risky hire. If he were 50 instead of 40 I would feel a lot better about it.

You all can joke about it all you want. It is a real risk and should be considered. I challenge you to research the current news about CTE to understand the topic better.

Here is the current wiki:

Which is accurate.

You always were disingenuous.

I took a screen shot, so when you edit the page to try to validate your point I'll have the proof.

I'm not joking about CTE in general...I'm joking about your "doom and gloom" that he "could" have CTE because of his concussions, he should be dismissed. Maybe Pegs should ask him to a pre-hire autopsy.

Maybe someone should have given Murray a concussion to knock some sense in him about the poor defense he put together. Or maybe he had CTE...or maybe Disco had it.

A lot of conjecture going on here...

By that logic Ennis' contract isn't Murray's fault because he didn't draft him? That's poor logic.

Have no problem with ppl critizing management/players but it all seems like heresay and opinions, if Pegula's biggest faults were hiring Rex Ryan and getting behind the tank, I think we could do A LOT worse in terms of meddling owners.

Only difference is these people you are talking about didn't have a history of serious concussion problems that were so severe they retired from their sport because of it.

Pot meet kettle...

Seriously you are removing a candidate because as you said he MIGHT have CTE.

MIGHT and I MIGHT have bought the winning lottery ticket last night.

Sure CTE is not something to joke about, but do you have any idea how many people could have it? I had several concussions when I played, it is actually one of the main reasons I stopped playing that was over 14 years ago. Does that mean I have CTE because I have gone over 14 years without having an symptoms but I am only 33?

You post something to sound like the smartest guy in the room literally copying something from the internet with a certain year range of when symptoms generally occur and because you didn't take 30 seconds to do a quick check to find out when said person you don't want to be hired retired from playing and not expect someone to call you out on it?

Give it a rest, find a better reason to not want him hired, hell you could have used the Pittsburgh/Pegula connection for all I care but to pull something out of your a$$ like CTE and use it as your only reason?

Literally ever single former player has a higher risk of having CTE. Yet here are several former players that are current GMs...

Not really considering they are entirely different.

We can't just fire Ennis with no cap/roster ramifications
