I think that is probably true. I also agree with you that the bigger issue is ice time allocation between Holden/Staal and Skjei/Smith.

Aside from Girardi giveaway (where Hank seriously needs to bail him out there) the only problom is Holden, Staal obviously too but I really think Holden makes him look a lot worse. Staal and Holden together is just like a hot potato with a lit stick of dynamite

At the end of the day it was a miscommunication and turnover in the neutral zone that led to a one v one and shot from the outside. Mistakes happen. No defensemen is perfect, but I'll take the mistakes that don't result in 2-1s and breakaways at key times.

Holden does something o.k., but he is a 6th defender at best, and he's playing too much. I don't expect the third pair to be all-world, but they are playing big minutes and that is a bit of a problem.

Because he gets blamed for having an awful partner.

I defend him because he has shown more on his offside in the 1st half of the year than Staal has shown in the last 4.

I think he is a solid 6th defenseman, will make some mistakes but make some good plays with offensive abilities. Staal is just awful, his contract is awful.

What are you missing with Staal getting knocked off every puck and skaters blowing by him like he is stuck in syrup, don't get me started on having the physical strength of wet one ply toilet paper.
