Keeping Kessel and trading JVR, Bozak and Bernier would have been the correct move. |

I also want to see how Andersen shapes up. Looked pretty good against the Caps. He cost less than either Toskala or Raycroft. And we all know Bernier was a waste of time. It's an important position that has been a glaring weakness for years. Nothing as demoralizing to a team than playing your guts out to get a goal and then the goalie lets in a couple of softies. - winsix

Five is the new two. - Canada Cup
In Vancouver 5 has always been the new 2, when they are talking about how many of the top 2 goalies on the planet they have.

Still would have come in last, his cap hit is less and probably beat the Caps with him. |

Based on the last 10 goalies the Leafs had id say he's relatively consistent and hands down the best since Belfour. Playing behind a mostly rookie forward group and a sub-par defence i don't think you could ask for better. I did wonder though, are we giving Freddy too much love? The answer is no. The last thing the fans at the ACC loudly chanted was Freddy! Freddy! Freddy! |

Can we please stop with the Bettman whining?
It's so franking ridiculous.
Apparently he hates Canadian teams, yet he is to blame for Edmonton getting too many high picks, using a system employed by other leagues.
Boring. - Atomic Wedgie
I don't blame Bettman for the draft nonsense, but I will never stop complaining about his positioning on the all so important TV deal, the Coyotes, being a whiny little wiener, how he has allowed the league and the players union to repeatedly get to strike/lockout situations - under his LEADERSHIP.
I get "its a business"... but isn't the business really the fans/fanbase?
there would be some simple straight-forward rules that could be put in place to make the draft lottery more situation sensitive as well.... just one example could be the 2016/17 Avs... if you finish a certain number of points behind the next worst team... maybe your percentage chance of winning the lottery goes up OR if you finish with a point total below 50 or 60 then change the odds. |

Lou gets to pick 1st for the first time last year, and now NJ gets it this year.
Feelz good - smellmyfinger
so the Leafs should get the NJ 1st overall I believe ..as compensation for taking LouL off your hands... apparently he was doing a poor job in his last few years? |

He'll be 20 in 2 years. A lot of dmen aren't even in the NHL yet at that point. - daeth
Yes, 20 is young for a d-man, but a 5th pick should show something by that stage. Charlie McAvoy was a 14th pick in the same draft and has seen NHL games already. We'll see - I doubt he gets alot of chances past the age of 20 in Vancouver. I don't disagree with you, but with the state that the Canucks are in, I'm not convinced they will exercise great patience. |

Andersen had a lousy start, but considering the leaky D in front of him, had a good year and playoff series. I think he can be better if they get one or two d-men that can reduce some of the extra whacks and bumps after the whistle that he took. Do you think that if Price or Lunquist or Holtby took a cheapshot like the one delivered by that Sasquatch Sestito, that he would have escaped without a few good shots? That has to change.
