Disagree:
I've been to Edmonton, they have some great fans. Like any Canadian city, when Leafs play there, lots of Blue and White in the stands. Leaf fans are treated ok, I can't say the same about my experiences at Vancouver games, even though there are probably even more Leaf sweaters there. After suffering through Kevin Lowe, Steve Tambellini and Craig McTavish - perhaps the worst tri-fecta of GM's in recent memory and picking garbage like Yakapoo first overall - they still had great support - real fans, unlike Ottawa - up two games in the second round and can't sell out. The system is flawed, no team should win 4 first overall picks as they did, but it is not the fault of Edmonton or their fans. Betman is to blame. - winsix
Can we please stop with the Bettman whining?
It's so franking ridiculous.
Apparently he hates Canadian teams, yet he is to blame for Edmonton getting too many high picks, using a system employed by other leagues.
Boring. |

Picking up McDavid or Matthews did not take great genius. I don't think Oilers would have picked Eichel even if Donanld Duck was GM, just ask Tim Murray (still crying). How cool is it that the Sabres got bumped down two spots? - winsix
Hall trade looking like the right, ballsy move that no prior GM would even consider making.
Talbot.
Lucic, Kassian, Maroon.
He quickly figured out what was lacking

There was absolutely no whining about Betman in the post. It was a statement of fact. In an effort to avoid the practice of finishing last to acquire the first overall pick, the rules were changed to a lottery system. As witnessed last night, it works nicely sometimes. The problem with the system is there is no clause to avoid the possibility of teams winning several first picks by chance. It would be an easy fix, it would be up to Betman and the board of governors whom he represents to do so.

My point was that Chia must have been licking his chops and felt like he himself won a lottery by getting to step into the Oiler Gm spot.
Anything that is detrimental to the Sabres, Canucks and Senaterds is very cool |

"People don’t realize how lucky (Toronto) got (in 2016 when they won the lottery and Auston Matthews). What we saw today was more a continuation of that. People say the more you lose the better your chances, but you’re talking about such a fine line."
-Trevor Linden
People are getting so rattled about what's happening with the Leafs. This, off the back of Maurice's dig at Babcock.
Yummy. - walshyleafsfan
Teams can't stop taking about the leafs, when they aren't even involved....... But hey leafs irrelevant.

The absence of Matthews would have meant another year of missing the playoffs and more focus and pressure on Nylander and Mitch Marner, as well as Mike Babcock not having the freedom to use Nazem Kadri as the club’s shutdown center.

Why? They did before without Matthews? |

No way man, Bettman fixed it so the Devils win the lotto when there is less generationalness for sure. |

Just think about this.....if the Leafs won one more game in the last week we would be having the easy run ala the Senatards.
We could have beat Boston, exorcised the past, and been onto the Rangers chasing King Henry every night.
Then we could've watched Leafs vs Pens for the ECF.
(frank). One more game in regular season. - underhill14
Right...except we wouldn't have played Boston. We would have played Ottawa... |

It's a weak draft and LV dropped to 6....no way it's rigged.
They went from drafting a bonadide 3/4 D to a prospect that might not even make the NHL |

Yeah I don't think it is Lucky at all . It is funny that teams that need the most help end up winning every year. Basketball also.
That's fine finish last next year and get a top 4 pick - VANTEL |

That is hilarious They are so butt hurt
If it was rigged they would of never had LV dropping down to 6...In a weak draft 6 is like 10 in past years. Still getting a good prospect but they arent starting their franchise with anyone special. |

Not so sure they are getting a good prospect. They picked Virtanen 6th in 2014, ahead of Nylander. Virtanen scored 19 points as a 20 yr old in a full season in the AHL this year. Also remember, Benninng is the GM.
