I think I'm more intrigued by Nico. Just don't have a good gut feeling about Patrick.... idk - rawwdogg88
Both are going to be studs.
Nicos got speed. But the size and skill factor for me would be too tough to pass on when it comes to Patrick.
Either way, you guys are getting one hell of a fukking player. |

Hall will be able to help Patrick adjust to the NHL and with those two added to Zacha, McLeod, Quenneville and Bastian and a support group of Henrique, Palmieri and Zajac sets the team up pretty damn well at forward. If you add Kovalchuk in there too, then you're set up for some high octane offense.
Defense, on the other hand is... a different story. Hopefully Shero learns from the mistakes of the Oilers and commits to building a strong back end first. |

Wow you guys are a bunch of buzzkills, we just won the rights to draft a guy who as a 17 year old had 41 goals and 102 points, then dominated in the playoffs, played well internationally, fits in with Zacha/McLeod as having ideal size and speed and you guys are upset because he's not Matthews?
He had a sports hernia, he's not in a wheel chair. |

No... Matthews is franchise player. Patrick reminds me more of Sean Couturier... - archromat

Not upset... but this is a cautionary situation. There's no surefire #1 in the draft. We're probably getting a guy that helps the team but he's not going to put us over the top. |

Comparing MacKinnon and Patrick first two years in their leagues:
MacKinnon: QMJHL
2011-2012 58GP- 31G-78P
2012-2013 44GP-32G-75P
Total: 102GP-63G-153P
Patrick: OHL
2014-2015 55GP-30G-56P
2015-2016 72GP-41G-102P
Total: 127GP-71G-158P
MacKinnon was injured both years and played in a league where offense is the #1 priority.
Patrick played 25 more games in a more even league that focuses on both sides of the puck. Patrick will be a great player. |

I hope we are now very aggressively using the other picks to get some good defensemen |

Oops I thought it was the OHL for some reason. WHL is actually defense first.
QMJHL offensive
OHL even
WHL for defensive
Not to say guys don't score, but that's what the main focus is, I believe. |

Like who? I don't think we'll get top 4d with 1 second. And I wouldn't just start trading the other picks away either. |

I think we use both second rounders on defense.... Or at least I think we should, IMO |

Yeah... about Patrick having a sports hernia...
He also suffered a collar bone break at 13, another one at 14, the hernia at 17 and then another "upper body injury" during the year before his eventual return.
Hernia is nothing... but JJ also was a bone breaker and it hurt his development.
He could turn out to be a completely healthy player... but it's right to have concerns. I'm even concerned about Zacha being injury prone... |

McJeezy broke his collarbone last year.
I'm concerned about Zacha because concussions are an unknown. I want Patrick, and I really don't want Patrick on the Flyers. |

I disagree. I think the higher on, yes with someone like Timmins, Jokiharju, Brannstrom. But with the other pick I'd go with Either Thomas, Frost, or Formenton.
Maybe go for Thomas first though, he's gonna be good. |

JJ is no ware near the player Patrick is, even when he was drafted. |

Based off Hischier's GP in QMJHL, it looks like he missed time too. |
