Kassian, Luc, and Maroon were all good pickups that really changed the look up front.

Luc's contract will not look so good in 3-4 years but the way the team is clicking right now I am sure you are not too worried.

I am happy for the decent Oil posters (you being one of them), and as hard as it is to admit the Oil are a fun team to watch. But there is a part of me who wants them to crash and burn so we don't have to put up with the idiots coming in here pretending like the last 10 years never happened. I am sure you understand.

I'm actually quite surprised at the civility of the Oilers faithful. Aside from Dogla ofcourse. But you know; he's banned.

The recent Jero ban was good timing. I'm sure his consultation work would be a pain right now.

What do the flames target with their 1st this year?

Having 2 great LW and loaded with young centers, do you then look to add a RW?

Or do you look to go with a Dman? You have quality in that position already on the team and then have a couple nice prospects on the farm. So then do you look to add to that depth?

There are members of our fanbase with somewhat short memories lol.

If we get 4 solid years out of Looch it was worth it. If he can even stay functionally relevant until contract end it would be great.

There is some disagreement amongst the base a out whether MacT or Chia is ultimately responsible for signing Talbot, but in the end Chia's name is on that deal and I would argue that he is just as important as drafting Jesus or maybe even moreso.

I am one of the few that never had an issue with the Larsson deal.

- TheTaoOfSemenko

Agreed on looch.
And He'll be 29 next season.

If we can get 3-4 quality years outta him, I'll take the anchor in the last few if it comes to that. all I really hoped was him providing a skill set that helps us make a deep run or two.
As I consider the western finals a "deep run" , (a super well as a 50 pt season) if we do make it to the 3rd round, I'd say the first season is a homerun pretty much.

I was certainly less than stoked on the Larsson trade initially. But he's made a believer outta me. Dudes a horse that does a lot of things we needed really well. Not overly talented, but defensively responsible, really smart and mean as fuk. All signed long term to a great deal.
Plus- the savings in that deal gave us the space to sign looch. ( I'll bet knowing he had looch in his back pocket was as much a part of the deal as hall and Larsson themselves )

Interesting how the last time the Oilers made the playoffs in 2006 they went all the way to the SC final and after all those years missing they make the playoffs and seem to be going on another run. I hope the result is the same as 2006, and I was born in Edmonton lol.

Play Jankowski as the third line centre. Move Bennett to play on his wing and a good match would be Versteeg on the other side.

Give Freddie Hamilton the 4th line centre spot.

For the draft, perfect situation is I hope Owen Tippett falls to the Flames. More realistically is take Cal Foote.

Regardless I would trade Vegas a draft pick or a middle range prospect if the take Brouwer instead of Stajan. I have no problem with Stajan for 1 more year as the 4th line centre.

Janko hasn't played centre in the NHL ...he might not be as good there as he is in the ahl ...Bennett was looking much better there by the end of the season too

Both very true.

But one of them as the 4th line center is a waste of their talents. And I believe that Bennett's tenacious puck persuit (dong on a bone), goal scorer style would be better suited at the wing. And with the assumption that Jankowski will be able to play centre at the NHL level, his size, and two way ability, playmaking / set up ability, and face off skill, has him more suited to play centre.

With the first two lines already full (assuming they keep Ferland on the top line which I really think that they should), they will need to find a way for both Janko (again on the intention that he can adjust) and Bennett to have more than 4th line minutes. This has one of them shifted to wing. I think in the long run they would be better with Bennett on the wing and Jankowski at centre

It wouldn't surprise me to see janko eased in on the wing though ...long term maybe it makes more sense for them to switch but right now i want to see more of Bennett at centre

That would be great if Foote is still available at 16-17. Pettersson, Andersson, or Popugaev and I'm happy.

Maybe BTL is unhappy with needing KKs approval for hockey decisions.

Is that guy a reliable source? If so that's (frank)ed. Bishop on the Flames = Flames beat Ducks in 1st or at least take them to 6 or 7. King possibly cost us all a BOA.

Yeah, that rumour's completely made up or Yzerman might be the worst GM in the league. You really think Yzerman handed out a 15 minute deadline days before the actual trade deadline then accept almost nothing because his arbitrary deadline wasn't met because Treliving couldn't get a hold of King? Yzerman accepted the deal he did because no one else was showing serious interest.

It's also fairly common for owners in any sport to want to know about any major deals before they happen.

No way Vegas takes stajan, 20 points a season @3+? They would have to send a pick yo have that contract taken .I'm sure they would rather take shinkaruk or chaisson.
