issue is there are only 30 protection slots for goalies... and more than 30 that need protecting.

I think Chicago and Carolina are both being smart here... get the transaction done relatively early.... they both know (or should) that there will be several teams who have goaltending issues relative to the exp draft. eg. Pittsburgh - and several who clearly have goaltending issues for next year eg Calgary.

I hope ShanaLouCock make some early moves as well - ahead of the draft... as they clearly have some bodies to move out if they so chose.

i agree. it's a game of musical chairs with goalie protection. somebody will get left standing.

Ward will be a good pick up for LV. They could easily move Murray and get a nice return from Calgary. MAF looking pretty good so far in the playoffs.

Leafs will have very little to expose in the expansion drafts, so there's not much that ShanaLouSchlong must do. Andersen will be protected - Among forwards, who are they going to lose? Likely Fehr, he has been acquired twice previously by McPhee. Looks like the only reason he was picked up in the trade was to send him to LV.

32 not that old for a goalie, and how many more years of cup window do Pens really have. Crosby is 29, Malkin is 30 - Calgary would give Pens a nice package for Murray. MAF is likely untradable at this point. (he also has a Modified NTC and a NMC)

There are probably 5 d-men that are on the first round radar and I would have to think he would be at the top of the list for the leafs if available. With Liljegren, Heiskanen and Makar probably off the board by the time the Leafs pick, it might come down to Valimaki,Foote,Joseph, Timmins or Hague. I doubt they have interest in Brannstrom.

I think Hague would be great. Lots of gambling in this year's draft, wouldn't hurt if we ended up with a big skilled guy that can skate and has a mean streak.
