So much to still be excited about with this team. Can't really recall a time we had this much talent and youth. Thing is there are bound to be trades and deals along with all the youth signings. We are just getting started so far this offseason.
And much as I can't stand the reincarnation of Todd Gill aka Gardiner, have a feeling Babs is happy with him and he might just be staying about. |

Jays just unwatchable. So awful - senstroll
When was the last time they started this poorly? I don't even remember a time where they were this bad. Since the lockout they've basically been a 70+ win team every year but two. Their win % wouldn't even be a good batting average. |

I'm so stoked. It seems even better than the Sundin/Quinn era or the Dougie/Wendel era because this group is so young they are set up to have potentially a longer run of contention than those teams did.
When they got eliminated this year I wasn't even really bummed out at all because they had taken such a step forward this year and made such a statement against the Caps that it was all gravy at that point. |

Hague would be the ideal pick. Big mobile defence. If not, trade down for Foote. |

Babcock: I think Gards is a real, real hockey player. He’s got high hockey IQ. He’s got ice in his veins. He does some things where you wonder what the heck he’s doing. But he always gets the puck out of his zone. When he arrived, we just talked to him. Talked to him every day and let him play and kept putting him back out there. I thought his game really came along last year but it’s coming like a landslide now. He can play against the best players.

Would like either of those two or Juuso Valimaki. Problem with drafting d-men is the waiting time for them to develop. I think Leafs go with the best talent on the board. Leafs will have to address defence this offseason through free agency or trade to take the next step and win a round or more in the playoffs. Lack of team toughness was also an issue against the Caps. If the Caps took four or five extra swipes at the puck/Andersen - there was no answer, only a huggy-poo. If Kadri or another Leaf took an extra swipe at the puck/Holtby - there was a pack (3-5) Caps sticks and fists raised ready to bring down retribution immediately. |

3-4 years from now, it won't be the worst thing if we have a good young dman coming in on his elc.
but yeah, something more immediate has to be done as well. |

Would be a welcome addition, although will not be an ultimate solution. Need some size and toughness back there in my opinion. I know many will say we want puck possession and skill, but it was way too easy to get extra shots at Andersen this year, especially against the Caps in the playoffs. Besides, toughness and skill do not have to be mutually exclusive. |

Looks like the type of trade we will be seeing frequently in the next few weeks. Cam Ward has a modified NTC, so he must be protected, Chicago moves Darling who they would have exposed to LV, now the Canes can expose him. Unless Ward agrees to a trade, Darling will be exposed.

Calgary needs a goaler...unfortunately I think they'll get him moved.
I'm surprised Darling was only traded for a 3rd...I thought they'd get more.

no market for goalies.
calgary can pay a 3rd for grubauer or raanta. pitts will have to pay the flames to take MAF's caphit. |

Ward will be a good pick up for LV. They could easily move Murray and get a nice return from Calgary. MAF looking pretty good so far in the playoffs. |

I think Chicago and Carolina are both being smart here... get the transaction done relatively early.... they both know (or should) that there will be several teams who have goaltending issues relative to the exp draft. eg. Pittsburgh - and several who clearly have goaltending issues for next year eg Calgary.
I hope ShanaLouCock make some early moves as well - ahead of the draft... as they clearly have some bodies to move out if they so chose. |
